Low-Life is the third studio album by English rock band New Order, released on 13 May 1985 by Factory Records. It is considered to be among the band's strongest work, displaying the moment they completed their transformation from post-punk to dance-rock. The album shows New Order's increased incorporation of synthesisers and samplers, while still preserving the rock elements of their earlier work. The original Factory CD issues of the album were mastered with pre-emphasis.

The songs on this album formed the basis of the band's live concert video Pumped Full of Drugs, filmed in Tokyo shortly before the album's release. The music video for "The Perfect Kiss" was directed by Jonathan Demme.

  • "The world is full of kings and queens, who blind your eyes and steal your dreams, it's HEAVEN AND HELL!" (1980); this week Steve brings in an album from his favorite band BLACK SABBATH! The first album from the RONNIE JAMES DIO era!

Heaven and Hell is the ninth studio album by the English heavy metal band Black Sabbath, released on 18 April 1980. It is the first Black Sabbath album to feature vocalist Ronnie James Dio, who replaced original vocalist Ozzy Osbourne in 1979.

Produced by Martin Birch, the album was a commercial success, particularly in the United States, where it reached number 28 on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified platinum for one million sales.[3] In the UK, it sold well enough to be certified silver by the British Phonographic Industry in April 1982.

  • "Bad, bad, bad boys and dangerous girls." this week Sean's wife brings in an album from HEART! BAD ANIMALS (1987)
    Mar 27 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

Bad Animals is the ninth studio album by American rock band Heart, released on May 15, 1987, by Capitol Records.[6] A continuation of the mainstream hard rock style the band adopted for its 1985 self-titled release, it enjoyed similar commercial success, peaking at number two on the US Billboard 200 in August 1987.

The album features a few cover songs: "Alone" was originally recorded by the duo i-Ten on their 1983 album Taking a Cold Look, while "Wait for an Answer" was originally recorded by Dalbello on her 1984 album Whomanfoursays.

The album's title refers to the band members themselves: they would call themselves the bad animals due to the way they looked in hotel lobbies, disheveled with sunglasses, exhausted from touring.[9]

  • "Check to see that nobody is escaping to Desolation Row" this week Sean brings in a classic BOB DYLAN album HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED (1965)
    Mar 20 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

Highway 61 Revisited is the sixth studio album by the American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released on August 30, 1965, by Columbia Records. Dylan continued the musical approach of his previous album Bringing It All Back Home (1965), using rock musicians as his backing band on every track of the album in a further departure from his primarily acoustic folk sound, except for the closing track, the 11-minute ballad"Desolation Row". Critics have focused on the innovative way Dylan combined driving, blues-based music with the subtlety of poetry to create songs that captured the political and cultural climate of contemporary America. Author Michael Gray argued that, in an important sense, the 1960s "started" with this album.[2]

Mudcrutch is the first studio album by American rock band Mudcrutch, released on April 29, 2008. The album was recorded during a two-week period in August 2007. Mudcrutch had originally been formed in 1970; the band recorded several demos and singles but never released a full album. Mudcrutch was disbanded by the record company in 1975 and did not play together again until recording this album 32 years later. After the initial break-up, band members Tom Petty, Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench went on to form Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

  • "Let's get together build a neutron bomb!" this week's guest Pete brings in SELF ENTITLED (2012) by skate punk band NOFX
    Feb 26 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

Self Entitled is the twelfth studio album by the American punk rock band NOFX. It was released on September 11, 2012 through Fat Wreck Chords.

The album took more than a year to materialize. Vocalist and bassist Fat Mike revealed to The Daily Times in January 2011 that a follow-up to Coaster was in production, explaining "There are some really good songs on Coaster, but after having written 300 songs, I feel lucky I came up with them. That's why there are songs on there about Iron Maiden and Tegan and Sara. I'm reaching, man. Sometimes I grab stuff just to grab stuff, and I'm going in a lot of different directions."[6] In December of that year, Fat Mike revealed to Phoenix New Times that he had begun work on a new NOFX album and a soundtrack to a "fetish film" called Rubber Bordello.

  • "We've been through mass destruction once, but once was not enough" this week Sean brings in ZEN ARCADE (1984) by Minnesota hardcore punk band HÜSKER DÜ
    Feb 18 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

The cold open was previously aired during the Pixies Surfer Rosa rerun since I thought it was topical, and now again since it bled into this episode's introduction. In case anyone was confused!

Zen Arcade is the second studio album by American punk rock band Hüsker Dü, released in July 1984 on SST Records. Originally released as a double album on two vinyl LPs, Zen Arcade tells the story of a young boy who runs away from an unfulfilling home life, only to find the world outside is even worse.[7] Zen Arcade and subsequent Hüsker Dü albums were instrumental in the creation of the alternative rock genre,[8][9]and it is considered by some to be one of the greatest rock albums of all time.

Hüsker Dü had gained notice in the American indie music scene of the early 1980s as a fast, aggressive hardcore punk band. They were the first non-West Coast group signed to the California independent record label SST Records, which at the time specialized in releases by hardcore bands, most notably Black Flag. However, the trio's music was becoming more melodic and nuanced with each album
