In 2021, many of us still huddled in specific areas. It was a time when 'Short Takes' went digital and in this episode, some of those topics arise with author Tessa Fontaine. At the time, she had released her fantastic nonfiction work 'The Electric Woman: A Memoir In Death-Defying Acts' only several months before. Here lies an entertaining bit of insight on Tessa Fontaine, writer of the note-perfect work 'The Electric Woman: A Memoir in Death-Defying Acts.' Here she teases a new book, which we now know became her first fictional release, 2024's 'The Red Grove.'

She also talks about what she envies in others, advises her teenage self, determines what it is about being human (hint: it's not fun), and reveals what's done up real good for her.

  • Matt Patton | Musician
    Apr 11 2026

Back in 2021 in the first season of the talk show and interview Short Takes, Blaine sat down with a fantastic musician when Matt Patton (Model Citizen, Dexateens, Drive-by Truckers, and more) joined the show.

Back then, Matt took some time to discuss the possibility of some Model Citizen tunes, what band practice is or is not for the Truckers, his work with Dial Back Sound, the upcoming Williamson Brothers album at that time, which was their first, the idea of a higher power, religion, what is good about the U.S. despite its flaws, and what is #DoneUpRealGood for him.
