On the Seventh Day of Creation, God ended his work. He rested from all the works he created and made. He blessed this day, and he sanctified it.

Some unique qualities about this day:

God blessed this day in that the created order rendered its strength in bountiful harvests, which God shares with man.

God sanctified this day, declaring it a special day above all others. He set it aside for celebration.

The Seventh Day was to last for one creation day of one thousand years. After this, if Adam had fulfilled his assignment, the city of Eden would have moved to the earth.

Adam failed his assignment by eating from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. The ground is cursed, and Adam has to toil and struggle with it to get it to produce. He has to eat the bread of sorrow. The ground produced thorns and thistles. He has to survive by eating the herbs of the field. His original food was the fruits that came off the trees in the Garden of Eden.

, It is important to know how God restores rest, what it looks like, and how to walk in it. Genesis 5 sums up Adam's generations. Adam died at 930 years, and the oldest living human being of Adam's generations, Methuselah, lived 969 years before he died. God is grieved because every thought and imagination of man was only to do evil. God limited man's lifespan to 120 years.

Methuselah's grandson, Noah, whose name means rest, survives the flood. Noah's people understood that God would use Noah to give them rest,

"And he called his name Noah, saying, this same shall comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath curse." Genesis 5:29 (KJV)
