Leadership in the Church is not ownership. It is stewardship. In 1 Peter 5, pastors are commanded to shepherd the flock of God, not their flock, not their platform, not their movement. Authority is real in the kingdom of God, but it is never meant to become domination. Peter warns elders to lead willingly, eagerly, and not domineering over those in their charge, but by being examples to the flock. The moment leadership becomes insulated from accountability, protected by a distorted “culture of honor,” or justified by gifting and influence, something has gone terribly wrong.

This episode of Sanctify Christ as Lord confronts a sobering reality: revival language and spiritual gifting do not excuse abusive leadership. Christ is the Chief Shepherd, and every pastor, elder, and ministry leader will one day answer to Him for how they treated His people.
