  • The Montauk Project: Real Stranger Things
    Jan 3 2026

In honor of the "Stranger Things" series finale, in this episode we're discussing the real-life inspiration behind the series: The Montauk Project. In World War II, the United States government built a military defense base known as "Camp Hero" in New York disguised as a fishing village. In the years following WWII, Camp Hero was largely abandoned until it was converted to a state park. Or, according to some folks, it was repurposed to conduct mind control and time travel experiments on kidnapped runaway children in a secret underground lab. These experiments are known as The Montauk Project.
