In this episode of Turn Left at the Cactus, Cal, Wigs, and Tricia sit down with author Marne J. Ross to talk about her newest novel, The Woman in the Cistern.
The book is the third installment in her San Amaro mystery series, set in a small fishing village in Baja California, Mexico. In this latest story, detectives Julia García and Ricardo Hernández reopen a fifteen-year-old case after human remains are discovered in an abandoned cistern.
Marne shares how this novel takes a darker, more psychological turn than the previous books, exploring themes of dementia, memory, and how truth can shift and fracture over time. She also offers insight into her creative process, her interest in portraying expatriate life, and the responsibility she feels when writing about local culture and community.
We also get a preview of what’s next—Marne is already at work on a fourth book—and discuss the growing success of her series within the regional community.
If you love atmospheric mysteries with emotional depth and a strong sense of place, this conversation is for you.
Her books can be found on Amazon and, in San Felipe, at My Baja Nest. To learn more about Marnie, go to marniejross.com
