S1E18 - The Legacy in a Letter

The letter arrives twenty-seven years after Grandfather Francesco's death. Maria finds it in an old cookbook: "For Maria, when she needs to remember who she is." Eight pages in English and Italian, written when she was seven and wanted to be a ballerina.

"You don't know yet that you will become a doctor," Francesco wrote, "but I can see it in how you bandage your dolls, in your questions about why people hurt, in the fierce gentleness with which you treat every living thing."
