The Leadership Coach Podcast – "Decisiveness" Making timely, informed decisions, even under pressure

    Intro (0 - 2:00)

"Welcome to The Leadership Coach Podcast, where we help professionals like you develop the mindset, skills, and confidence to lead with impact. I'm John Roberson with Special Guest Zana Omar, and today we’re diving into a critical leadership trait—Decisiveness.

Great leaders don’t hesitate when it matters. They make timely, informed decisions—even under pressure. But how do you develop that level of confidence? Today, we’ll break it down into three key areas:

    1. The Cost of Indecision – Why hesitation can hurt you and your team.

    2. The Decision-Making Framework – A simple process to make faster, better choices.

    3. Overcoming Fear & Pressure – How to stay confident even in high-stakes situations.

Stick around until the end for a practical challenge you can apply today!"

    Topic 1: The Cost of Indecision (5:00 - 20:00)

"Let’s start with the problem—indecision is a silent killer in leadership. When you hesitate, projects stall, opportunities slip away, and your team loses confidence in you.

Think about a time when a leader you worked with couldn’t make a call. How did it affect the team? Most likely, there was frustration, wasted time, and even missed opportunities.

A decisive leader, on the other hand, creates momentum. They don’t always make perfect choices, but they trust themselves to course-correct if needed. That’s the key—progress over perfection."

    Topic 2: The Decision-Making Framework (20:00 - 35:00)

"Now, let’s talk solutions. If you want to be a decisive leader, you need a clear framework for making decisions. Here’s a simple one I recommend:

    1. Clarify the Goal – What’s the outcome you need?

    2. Gather Key Information – Get the essential facts—but don’t get stuck in over-researching.

    3. Consider Risks & Rewards – Weigh the pros and cons, but set a time limit on your analysis.

    4. Trust Your Judgment – After step three, make the call. Waiting longer won’t make it easier.

    5. Take Action & Adjust – Once you decide, commit—but be ready to adapt if needed.

This process helps you avoid paralysis by analysis while still making smart, informed choices."

    Topic 3: Overcoming Fear & Pressure (35:00 - 50:00)

"Let’s be honest—fear is the real reason most people struggle with decisiveness.

Fear of making the wrong choice.

    Fear of judgment from others.

    Fear of failing.

The truth is, no leader gets every decision right. The best ones focus on making the best choice with the information they have at the time.

A few ways to build confidence under pressure:

✔ Limit your options – Too many choices lead to overthinking.

✔ Set a decision deadline – Give yourself a timeframe and stick to it.

✔ Detach from perfection – Aim for progress, not flawless outcomes.

As the saying goes, ‘A good decision now is better than a perfect decision later.’"

    Call to Action (55:00 - 60:00)

"So here’s your challenge—the next time you face a decision, set a 10-minute deadline. Use the framework we discussed: Define the goal, gather key info, weigh risks, decide, and act.
