  • Dylan Harris & Drew B Darby: “The Cutoff” A Film For The Rest Of Us
    Mar 21 2026

I am not quite sure why they agreed to be on my humble little podcast, but I'll take it. Today, I am honored to be joined by Dylan Harris and Drew B Darby. Dylan is a well-known filmmaker, and the creator/director of the feature film, The Chase, that covered the 2024 men's race at the Cocodona 250. Drew, also has quite the resume, with clients that include household names like Sally McRae and Heather Jackson. In 2024, Dylan recruited Drew to collaborate and help him on The Chase, and in 2025, they teamed up again at Cocodona to create another masterpiece. The film is called “The Cutoff”, and for all of us ‘normal’ folks, who constantly find ourselves at the wrong end of the timing clock, this is the film for us. The film tells the stories that don’t usually get told and does it with a level of production that is rarely seen. What you end up with is an amazing piece of cinema, and might just be the most unique take in this genre since “Unbreakable”. Or maybe I’m just super biased…but I promise you, the film is fantastic, and so is this conversation. So, get your shoes on for your long run, and heck, bring your Sachtler tripod with too, if you need it, but it’s time to hit the trail.

  • Jamison Swift : Second Seasons & Sagas of Ice and Fire
    Mar 14 2026

Jamison Swift, along with his wife, Lisa, is a race director in MN for the St Croix 40 Winter Ultra (BTW, bring your own sled), and the Fire Tower Trail Races. Besides that, he is an avid photography, active volunteer at races, a bike, run and sled adventurer, a musician, and quite frankly, a bit nerdy like yours truly. We cover all of that, along with Jamison and Lisa's amazing efforts to make their races accessible to everyone, especially women, with their 50 Women Run 50K program. And stay tuned after the conversation for another Running Out Loud segment where I feature another Joe Hardin piece called "Standing Through Seasons". We've got a lot of ground (or snow) to cover in this one, so go grab your shoes (and sled or tire if you need it), it's time to hit the trail.

  • Tiffany Piotrowicz : Selling Shoes & Giving Hope
    Feb 28 2026

Season Two is here!! Yes, my loyal listeners, I am back, and so are my wonderful guests. My first guest is Tiffany Piotrowicz. At a fairly young age, she pivoted in her career and bought her own business. She has used her creative and marketing skills, and grown and guided that business into a great success, and now is using that as a tool and platform for bringing hope and help to her community. And stayed tuned after the conversation for a new segment I am deputing in season two called, "Running Out Loud", where I share works and words from talented folks that have been inspiring me lately. So let's get ready to meet Tiffany, and let's get ready for Season Two of the Running Behind pod.

  • Crew Access Vol 5 | Hoka The Chiweenie And Other Dog Talk
    Jan 31 2026

The Boys Are Back! In this post holiday, episode, the boys and I discuss everything from dogs to race plans to bathroom re-remodels. Get to know about our plans for races and training in 2026 (likely to change by the next episode LOL), and get to hear to story of precious Hoka, aka TT, Erik's beloved little furry friend who he recently had to say goodbye to. And I would be remiss not to acknowledge what is going on in my precious city of Minneapolis. I can only say thank you to everyone who has reached out to me...to us. These are my neighbors, my friends and my community that is so affected. We are strong, we will stand together, we will get there. But now, it's time for a little distraction and banter. Who knows, it might even have you digging for that old pair of Under Armour running shoes.

  • Wes Cornett | Misfits, Rebels, Fever Dreams and Tacos
    Jan 18 2026

Wes Cornett was born in Hawkins, Indiana...well, maybe not Hawkins, but basically though. While still just a kid, a bad breakup and a love of cheap tacos lead him to the military. After a 20 year career that included deployments in Bosnia and Afghanistan, his military career left a wake of hard realities...the loss of his best friend, struggles with PTSD, anxiety, depression, sobriety and his mental health. Eventually though, he found his footing and a love for trail running and hiking. Even though some struggles continue, Wes is finding success, including a recent raffle ticket win to run the Western States Endurance Run (cuz hey, you can't spell Western States without "Wes"), and a tremendous accomplishment of publishing his first novel. Needless to say, this episode covers a lot of ground...we're talking like Tor Des Geants ground. So, get those comfy shoes, tape your toes and grab your poles, because we've got a lot to learn about Wes.

  • Dr Tonya K Olson | Horses, Grandmas, Bunkers Bar And The Michigan Bluff Social Club
    Dec 26 2025

IN A TIME BEFORE FIREBALL...around mile 20, somewhere along highway 61 just north of Duluth, MN, Dr. Tonya hit a low in her first marathon, when suddenly four hands from the Reef Bar reach out with some much needed Jack Daniels. It was one of several inspirational moments that helped her complete her first of ten straight Grandma's marathons. Or there was the time when she moves to a new town and becomes a tour guide on her first day of living there! Or her lifelong love of horses and how they have shaped her entire life both personal and professional. Okay, yeah...we do talk a LITTLE footcare. I mean, after all, she is one of the premiere footcare experts in the world of endurance athletics, and she does lead footcare for THE Western States Endurance Run, but really, this is all about getting underneath the kinesiology tape and getting to know the real Dr. Tonya. Get ready for some good old Minnesota story telling...

  • Neeraj Egbert | Here For The Adventure, Here For The Immigrants
    Dec 6 2025

This is Neeraj's story... He was born in India and grew up with the typical norms and traditions of his community, spending a few of his key formative years nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas, in the idyllic village of Nainital. In 1994, he had the opportunity to visit the US through an exchange program, and it was quite the culture shock. He ultimately stayed though. Settling in Louisville, eventually getting married and landing in a career as a Physical Therapist. And while not athletic as a youth or young adult, he found his way to running and eventually to trail running. In late 2024, Neeraj won the lottery...the 2025 Western States Endurance Run lottery that is. In a race where the odds of getting selected are somewhere between the Powerball and Kentucky Derby Trifecta, Neeraj got in. He trained and ran the best race he could that day, but ultimately the timing clock on the Auburn track went blank about two minutes before Neeraj was able to cross the finish line - no belt buckle, no official finish time and no certainty that he would ever get the chance to run Western States again...and then something magical happened. Sometimes fate has a way of knowing just who to shine down on. This is his moment and this is his story.

  • Alex Baker | Never Moving On, Always Moving Forward
    Nov 22 2025

Alex met his wife Amanda when they were both in college. They got married, and after years of trying, they finally had a child. Tragically, while their child was still a toddler, Amanda was diagnosed with cancer and lost her battle to that relentless disease 16 months later. In this powerful and emotional conversation, Alex walks us down the path of that pain and loss, but also through the transformational journey of change and hope that happens afterwards. With the rallying cry of "Never moving on, but Always moving forward", Alex takes back control of his health, his life, and takes the fight to cancer.
