The event celebrated science and STEM through hands-on activities connecting these fields to real-world applications. Participants included local schools, universities, organizations like the Georgia Reptile Society, and even unique contributors like Zumba With Stephanie and Ashley's Absolutely Glorious Hats. The festival showcased a diverse range of STEM-related experiences, engaging attendees of all ages in interactive learning and exploration. STORY 2: BOC Approves Zoning Variance For Proposed Fairplay Road Gas Station The Morgan County Board of Commissioners approved a variance for a gas station project at the historic Fairplay Grocery store in Rutledge. The renovation includes adding three gas pumps, a fuel canopy, and resurfaced parking. The variance adjusts setback requirements, with conditions to minimize light pollution and address environmental concerns. Developers pledged to improve traffic flow and signage at the busy intersection. Commissioners emphasized working with neighbors on lighting issues, while the Planning Commission recommended approval, citing safety and business viability. STORY 3: Man and woman dead in apparent murder-suicide A man and woman were found dead in a vehicle at Conyers’ Big Haynes Creek Nature Center early Tuesday in an apparent murder-suicide. Conyers Police discovered the scene after spotting a red sedan with a shattered window during patrols. Both victims, a 27-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man, died from gunshot wounds. Their identities are withheld pending next-of-kin notification. Police believe it was an isolated incident with no community threat.
