  • What Is Just War Theory? | Exodus 22:2-3
    Apr 9 2026

In this episode of the Right Response podcast, the hosts discuss the Christian tradition of just war theory, tracing its development from Augustine to Aquinas and explaining why it matters for distinguishing justified killing from murder. They outline core criteria for going to war (jus ad bellum)—legitimate authority, just cause, right intention, last resort, proportionality, probability of success, and discrimination between combatants and non-combatants—and for conduct within war (jus in bello), including proportionality and humane treatment of prisoners. Applying these principles to modern conflicts, they highlight difficulties posed by preemptive war, imperial and economic motives, and technologies like drones. They also address Christian pacifism, arguing for a distinction between personal ethics and public duties of the civil magistrate, and conclude with Isaiah 2’s vision of a future where nations “learn war no more.”

  • There Are Different Levels of Hell | Luke 12:47-48
    Apr 7 2026

This episode argues against the common evangelical claim that “all sin is equal,” using Luke 12:47–48 to emphasize that greater knowledge of God’s will brings greater culpability and stricter judgment. The hosts discuss temporal judgments in Scripture (including Sodom and Gomorrah) and contend that eternal punishment also varies in severity based on both the nature of sins committed and the degree of revelation and grace received, citing Jesus’ woes to Tyre and Sidon and the principle “to whom much is given, much is required.” They distinguish between sin equally separating the unrepentant from God and differing degrees of punishment in hell, and they compare this to differing degrees of reward in heaven. They also connect these ideas to natural revelation, civil and biblical law, the heightened judgment of teachers and deceivers, and the continuing moral relevance of God’s law for Christian sanctification.

  • Can History Prove The Resurrection? | 1 Corinthians 15:1-7
    Apr 2 2026

During Holy Week, Wesley Todd, joined by Pastor Joel Webbon and Antonio Griffith, reads 1 Corinthians 15:1–7 and argues that Christianity hinges on Jesus’ bodily resurrection as the seal of His saving work and the basis of Christian hope. They outline early evidence for the resurrection, including Paul’s use of an earlier creed within two decades of the crucifixion, the independent Gospel accounts with specific and “embarrassing” details, and the public setting of Jerusalem with claims of appearances to many, including over 500. They also cite non-biblical, often hostile sources—Josephus, Tacitus, Pliny, a Talmud passage, Clement of Rome, and early anti-Christian mockery—to show the crucifixion and resurrection claims were widely circulated early. They address objections like hallucination, bereavement experiences, and body-theft theories, concluding history can strongly support the case but cannot produce absolute certainty without faith, since unbelief is ultimately moral and spiritual rather than merely intellectual.
