Rick's Reading List: The Dutch House

Ann Patchett's masterpiece "The Dutch House" is a remarkable tale of a brother and sister who find themselves alone in the world. Their mother left them when they were children and their father died of a heart attack at 53. That left the two siblings to grow up together -- even though it is no longer in The Dutch House their father bought for the family in the Philadelphia suburbs. And while Danny and Maeve no longer live in The Dutch House after their stepmother threw them out, they can't stop going back there, holding conversations in their car while parked across the street from what was their home. The Dutch House is a powerfully written novel, albeit heartbreaking at times, and it is this week's selection on Rick's Reading List.
