  • THE POWER OF I AM: HARNESSING THE DECLARATIONS THAT SHAPE OUR LIVES
    Sep 19 2023

Several years ago, I read a book by Joel Osteen that changed my life. "The Power of I Am" talks about the significance of the words "I am". He says those two words are more than just a self-affirmation but also a declaration of our inherent worth and potential. As a Presentation and Growth Mindset Coach, I believe there is power in making "I Am Declarations. They can shape our beliefs, behaviours, and reality. The words we say after "I am..." determine how we see ourselves and show up in the world. Whether used positively (e.g., "I am capable") or negatively (e.g., "I am unworthy"), these declarations can profoundly impact our self-image and self-worth. By consciously choosing empowering declarations, we can steer our lives in a direction that aligns with our goals and desires. So, today, I challenge you to declare your significance with a few well-constructed I Am Declarations.

  • The Secret Recipe For Success
    Sep 12 2023
    Podcast Summary:

In today's episode, we delve deep into the nuances of the "growth mindset", a concept pioneered by Stanford University psychologist Dr. Carol Dweck.

Those who embrace a growth mindset firmly believe that intelligence and skills can evolve with effort and determination. They view challenges as learning opportunities and failures as mere hurdles to be overcome, not the end of the journey. An emblematic example of this mindset is Thomas Edison, who, after numerous unsuccessful attempts to invent the light bulb, proclaimed that he had merely discovered multiple ways that didn’t work.

Contrastingly, individuals with a "fixed mindset" view their abilities as unchangeable. For them, failure is a reflection of inherent limitations rather than a result of insufficient effort or approach. Picture two students: one perceives a poor test score as proof of their inadequacy, while the other sees it as motivation to work harder – the former represents a fixed mindset and the latter a growth one.

But another crucial ingredient in the recipe for a winning mindset is "grit." Coined by Dr. Angela Duckworth, grit is defined as a blend of passion and relentless persistence. A shining illustration of grit is J.K. Rowling, who endured countless rejections and personal hardships before the "Harry Potter" series' global acclaim but never wavered in her pursuit.

Fortunately, both the growth mindset and grit aren't innate; they can be cultivated. A simple yet powerful linguistic shift to integrate is the inclusion of the word "yet", a term that reorients our perspective from current constraints to future potentials.

In conclusion, self-awareness is key. Evaluate whether you lean towards a growth or fixed mindset and introspect on your grit quotient.

If today's discussion resonated with you, spread the word.

  • Part 2 Shattering Cognitive Boundaries -
    Sep 11 2023

In the "September Reset Series" episode of "Reset Your Mindset", the topic is about breaking the "Cognitive Boundaries". These invisible walls in our minds are formed by past experiences, fears, and societal lessons, which influence our perceptions and limit our potential.

A simple example highlighted is a child discouraged from pursuing careers in numbers due to a belief they're bad at math.

The podcast emphasizes that shattering these barriers begins with recognizing instances where we've limited ourselves with thoughts like "I can't" or "It's not me".

An illustrative story is presented about Jayne, a skilled financial analyst. Despite her prowess in her field, a traumatic high school memory of a failed public speaking attempt haunted her, preventing her from accepting speaking engagements.

Through coaching, Jayne confronted this fear. The podcast presents a three-step process to confront such powerful memories:

    1. Reframe the Memory: Remember the positive aspects of the situation and understand that human errors don't define one's entire abilities.

    2. Ground Yourself in the Present: Recognize personal growth since the troubling memory and stay rooted in current accomplishments.

    3. Practice in a Safe Environment: Before facing a larger audience, practice speaking in front of trusted individuals, replacing the old negative narrative with a new, positive one.

With this approach, Jayne managed to address her fears, exemplifying that past traumas can be reshaped into future strengths.

The episode concludes by encouraging listeners to break free from their cognitive boundaries, unleashing their full potential, and inviting them to share the episode if it resonates.

Listeners are reminded that challenging limiting beliefs opens up endless possibilities, enabling them to overcome self-imposed restrictions.

  • Building A Life On The Foundation of Everyday Victories
    Sep 6 2023

    Key Takeaways:

    1. Definition of Everyday Victories: These are small accomplishments achieved daily, such as waking up early or maintaining one's diet. While they might appear minor, they act as the groundwork for larger accomplishments.

    2. The Brick Analogy: Constructing a life is similar to building a house. Starting with solid foundational bricks (everyday victories) is crucial. An inconsistent foundation may jeopardize the entire structure.

    3. Productive Morning Illustration: The confidence and control one feels after a series of small, productive habits showcases how these tiny accomplishments set the tone for achieving larger goals.

    4. Client Story - Sarah: Demonstrates the ripple effect of a small change. By waking up just 15 minutes earlier for meditation, Sarah experienced increased focus at work, more patience at home, and further personal growth. A testament to the power of consistent small victories.

    5. Compounding Impact: Simple daily habits, like reading ten pages, can lead to significant accumulations over time, in this case, reading 10 to 12 books in a year.

    6. Importance of Everyday Victories: They keep one grounded, ensuring they remain motivated. Aiming solely for significant achievements can be demotivating due to challenges. By celebrating small wins, one can build resilience, and during setbacks, these memories act as a reminder of one's capabilities.

    7. Final Thought: Building a life based on everyday victories is more than just a strategy—it's a mindset. Every small step forward counts, and together, they shape one's life.

Closing Remark: Celebrate everyday victories as they are the stepping stones to a resilient and robust you. Share the episode if it resonated with you.

  • How To Triumph Over Limiting Beliefs
    Sep 6 2023

Welcome to Reset Your Mindset, a 3-to-5-minute coaching moment that explores strategies and tools to help reset your mindset so you can reach your full potential. This is the September Reset Series, and I'm your host, Eugene Moreau.

In this episode, I am talking about How to Triumph Over Limiting Beliefs.

    Thank you for joining me!

What are limiting beliefs? They're the invisible barriers that hold us back, the voices that whisper, "I can't," or It's impossible.

They're the self-imposed limits we set that prevent us from living our most authentic, successful lives.

So, how can we break free from a limiting belief? That's what I want to share with you in this episode.

I have four coaching points that will help us today.

Coaching Point 1: Identify Your Limiting Beliefs.

It may seem obvious after having coached hundreds of people identifying the limiting belief appears to be overlooked when it comes to triumphing over limiting beliefs.

Identifying is the first step because you can only change what you're aware of.

How do you identify a limiting belief?

Start by listening to the narratives you tell yourself, and pay attention to self-deprecating thoughts or feelings of self-doubt.

Recognise these as your limiting beliefs, and don't judge yourself for having them; we all do.

So, Idenitifcation is the first step towards change.

Coaching Point 2: Challenge Your Limiting Beliefs.

Once you've identified them, don't accept them at face value. Question their validity.

Ask yourself, 'Is this really true?'

More often than not, you'll find that these beliefs stem from past experiences or insecurities rather than from objective truth.

So ask for evidence, scrutinise, and dare to doubt those beliefs that hold you back.

Coaching Point 3: Replace Your Limiting Beliefs.

Now that you've identified and challenged your limiting beliefs, it's time to replace them with empowering ones.

Let's say your limiting belief is 'I'm not good enough to succeed.' Replace it with 'I am fully capable and deserving of success.'

Repeat this as a declaration, REGULARLY!

Make declarations like this one, your mantra. Strengthen their power within your mind; soon, they'll become your reality.

And finally, Coaching Point 4: Take Consistent Action.

Overcoming limiting beliefs is a process that takes time.

It's a continuous journey. You've got to take consistent steps that align with your new beliefs.

It might mean stepping out of your comfort zone, embracing discomfort, learning from failures, and celebrating every little progress you make.

No matter how small, each step forward is a victory over your limiting beliefs.

Ok. that's it for this episode.

Remember, your beliefs have the power to create or destroy. Choose beliefs that empower you and break free from the chains holding you back.

  • Grow Tall Anyways!
    Aug 25 2023
IT’S OK TO OUTGROW PEOPLE WHO DON’T GROW.  GROW TALL, ANYWAYS.

My dad died in early 1992. I was only 33 years old. We had just begun to connect at an ‘adult’ level when a heart attack claimed him.

But he left me with some pearls of wisdom that have remained and helped me over the past 30 years.

Wisdom sayings like: "Hard work and perseverance can lead to great achievements” and "Learn from your mistakes and use them as stepping stones to grow." One of my favourites is "Be grateful for what you have and appreciate the little things in life."

Like I said, pearls of wisdom.

Before I left home at 18 to attend college and start my life on a speaking circuit, we were chatting, and he dropped a one-liner on me that planted a seed that eventually grew into my passion and profession. He said, “Son, grow you, not someone else.”

It wasn’t until I came across an anonymous saying a few years later that the wisdom of that one-liner began to sink in.

“It’s okay to outgrow people who don’t grow. Grow tall anyways.” ~ Anonymous

Here’s what I now understand about “Grow you, not someone else.”

If I live my life to meet the expectations of others - what they think I should be and do - then I am trying to grow into someone else.

To be the ME that is ME and not be someone else's version of me, I found myself outgrowing relationships that no longer align with my goals, values, or dreams.

Not everyone is in my life for life. I learned that to truly embrace the essence of who I am — the unique ME — I have to live an authentic life, and this authenticity is about honouring my beliefs, values, dreams, and ambitions.

So, this is my motivational message for you today, GROW YOU, NOT SOMEONE ELSE.

As you continue to grow, no matter what season of life you are in, you’ll begin to recognise that not all relationships are there to help YOU grow into the authentic YOU.

Some relationships might hold you back because they are rooted in who you once were rather than who you are becoming.

It’s okay to outgrow people who don’t grow. Grow tall anyways.
