I liked the remote working podcast

I like the array of topics they covered related to remote working and planning. Some of the pitfalls and solutions that teams may encounter. It was mentioned that simple things like following up with a regular call help just to clarify things. It sounds obvious but in today’s zoom, forum, text msg, social media era… it may feel out of place to make a phone call when it really isn’t out of place at all.

I like that they talked about planning and some of the challenges people have to deal with. Things like having to raise your hand just to get a word in lol. A lot of teams are planning online 100% and that actually makes things better and worse at the same time. It’s like fast food. Accessible but the quality may or may not drop depending on what you order. Communication is everything and they do a great job of highlighting it.

I also enjoy that they have accents. Because to me that is a positive ice breaker. I think it’s awesome that people can hear the different culture in one’s voice and yet still be able to connect so vividly on a topic. Not only will people have to work together from different parts of the world, you’ll have to speak with people that might have learned English as a second language or speak a second language primarily at home or with parents and loved ones. This is realistic in any profession.

I think it’s a huge plus to the audio because in the real world you’re not going to be working with everyone that sounds exactly the same as you do. So just by listening to the podcast, you’re passively training your ears to listen to the cadences of different cultures.

This makes your effective listening skills better. This is important because discussions are the most important part of the development process. By listening to a podcast like this, you’re not only getting EXCELLENT content and subject matter… but you’re also getting the thought process between male AND female developers.
