Leviticus 19:33–34 (NRSV)
“When the alien resides with you in your land, you shall not oppress the alien. The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.”
During these times it is important that we hold our memory as divine and not defensive. But that as Christians we remember what is it like for oppression and nationalism to cause unwanted harm. It is our job to not just remember, but to pray and remember to love your neighbor as you love yourself.
