    Apr 28 2025
Ever found yourself knee-deep in a pint of ice cream after a stressful day, convincing yourself that this is "self-care"? (Or is that just me?). Emotional eating is a common (yet sneaky) coping mechanism that many people struggle with. Why do we turn to food when we’re stressed, sad, or even bored? More importantly, how can we break free from the cycle? Today we’re diving into the psychology behind emotional eating, why it’s so hard to stop, and my top six research-backed ways to regain control over what’s on your plate and what’s really weighing on your mind.____________________________Full blog and show notes: https://abbymedcalf.com/why-we-eat-our-feelings-understanding-and-overcoming-emotional-eatingGrab my FREE Mindfulness Starter Kit: https://abbymedcalf.com/product/mindfulness-starter-kit/Learn how to create and hold healthy, loving boundaries with my book Boundaries Made Easy: Your Roadmap to Connection, Ease and Joy https://abbymedcalf.com/boundaries or The Workbook: Boundaries Made Easier https://abbymedcalf.com/boundaries-workbookWant to feel happier and more connected in your relationship? • 331. A New Mindset for Navigating Neurodiverse Relationships
    Apr 21 2025
If you’re in a relationship where one or both partners are on the autism spectrum, you’ve probably noticed that the usual relationship advice doesn’t quite work for you. You might have read articles, watched videos, or even talked to a therapist, but instead of feeling helpful, that advice often leaves you feeling more frustrated, disconnected, or misunderstood. Here’s why: you’re not just speaking different love languages; you’re coming from different neurological cultures. This isn’t about broken communication. It’s about translation. When you shift your mindset to view your relationship like a cross-cultural partnership, where both people bring strengths, challenges, and a completely valid worldview, you stop trying to fit into someone else’s mold and start building a relationship that actually works for you. Today we’ll explore what it really takes to make a neurodiverse relationship thrive, starting with letting go of neurotypical expectations and embracing a mindset of curiosity, patience, and collaboration.____________________________Full blog and show notes: https://abbymedcalf.com/a-new-mindset-for-navigating-neurodiverse-relationships Grab my FREE How I Show Love Worksheet: https://abbymedcalf.com/showlovesheet Learn how to create and hold healthy, loving boundaries with my book Boundaries Made Easy: Your Roadmap to Connection, Ease and Joy https://abbymedcalf.com/boundaries or The Workbook: Boundaries Made Easier https://abbymedcalf.com/boundaries-workbook Want to feel happier and more connected in your relationship? • 330. Codependency and Boundary Red Flags When Dating
    Apr 14 2025

Dating should be exciting, filled with curiosity, fun, and a growing sense of connection. But if you’ve struggled with boundaries in the past or found yourself repeatedly in relationships that drain you, you might unknowingly be attracting (or being attracted to) codependent dynamics. Today we’ll break down what codependency looks like in dating, how to spot red flags early (before you’re in too deep), and the subtle ways someone might be trampling your boundaries that you shouldn't ignore. You’re going to learn actionable tools to create healthier connections, build confidence in your boundaries, and avoid relationships that pull you into an unhealthy cycle of over-giving, rescuing, or feeling responsible for someone else’s happiness.

Practical, and Life-Changing Relationship Advice - she gave me the tools to be a better human.

I found this podcast because I was looking to build better relationships, I went through some significant losses because of mistakes I made and this podcast has really helped me transform my relationships, understand what a healthy relationship looks like and become a better person. I have never written a review for another podcast so hopefully that let you know just how much of an impact this podcast has had.

Life-changing podcast

I'm so grateful that I found Dr. Abby's podcast. I've had so many "aha!" moments listening to this show and I've seen a huge change in my relationships (all of them -- family, partner, coworkers) and I've generally felt better and more content. She shares so many useful tips that are simple, but really make a huge difference if you try them. I can't recommend this pdocast enough. Even if you're not in a relationship, which I wasn't for a long time, she really teaches you how to find peace and just be happy with yourself. Thank you, Dr. Abby. You're doing good things in the world!

HELPFULLY INFORMATIVE (& ALL-AROUND AMAZING!!!)

I tend to ramble when I write reviews about helpful podcasts that hit the mark on so many levels, so I'll do my best to be concise here with my top 3 reasons I LOVE THIS PODCAST:

1. Abby breaks her topics down into actionable, PRACTICAL steps - WITHOUT RAMBLING or getting off topic!

2. Very thorough in that she approaches each topic from various different angles
Example: How __(gaslighting)___ affects you personally, signs to look for when you're on the receiving end, long term effects, what you can do to combat _________, ETC.

3. She discusses the NITTY-GRITTY (juicy) aspects of popular mental health/self-improvement topics. 4 years + worth of content already there.
(there's so many good ones in her episode list, hard to choose every time I go to listen! They are all longer than 30 minutes, too =D)

I am your catalogue over-thinker and over analyzer who has put in lots of time searching for, and listening to various types of productivity, self-help, empath/mental health podcasts, so the above mentioned list is just 3 of MANY reasons why I love the podcast BEST out of all of them. BUT perhaps the MOST important aspect of the podcast is, to me, the likeability of the podcast host themselves...

Abby is extremely intelligent (PhD), yet speaks as if she's someone you've known for decades. Her background story is inspiring and relatable. I love her CHARISMA and down-to-earth practicality.

BUT the thing that I love the MOST about this is: she doesn't ramble. She doesn't laugh for 45 seconds leaving you frustrated as you close out the podcast app, waiting for her to get to the good stuff. She doesn't come off as "high n mighty", she doesn't turn you off after 10 minutes of introduction and announcements, and she DOESNT take up large amounts of time discussing trivial "life update" chats about her personal life, as MANY OTHER PODCAST HOSTS do.
****Don't get me wrong! Its not that any given podcast hosts' personal life isn't interesting or important. But lets face it... we DON'T always have the TIME, the ATTENTION SPAN, OR the EMOTIONAL BANDWIDTH that's required to get through these rambling periods that I hear on other podcasts do episode after episode!!!!****

LISTEN TO THIS PODCAST if you are struggling with mental health, relationship issues, or looking for information on being an Empath. TRUST!
