Redstone Resources (RDS.ASX) has just released insights from a deep diamond drill hole at Tollu, within WA's West Musgrave region. In this ASX small-cap analysis, James Whelan from smallcaps.com.au sits down with Redstone’s project director Greg Shurtleff to unpack why the Tollu results are noteworthy, what they reveal about the geology under Tollu, and what this could mean for future exploration across the Tollu Fault and surrounding gabbro intrusions. The key takeaway is that a single deep hole has intersected significant copper mineralisation far below the existing Tollu limits, with two strong copper zones recorded in a mafic rock (gabbro) environment and signs of alteration and cobalt mineralisation that could point to a larger, deeper magmatic system. The drill targeted beneath what was believed to be the deepest part of the Tollu copper deposit, in the hope of finding an extension or a signature of a bigger copper-nickel-cobalt system similar to Nebo Babel or Voices Bay. While the hole is off-target relative to Tollu’s known surface geometry, the mineralisation encountered at depth suggests the belt could host a much larger, deeper system and emphasises Tollu’s prospectivity when viewed in the broader regional context. Greg discusses the significance of hitting gabbro at depth, the structural information Diamond Core drilling can provide, and how the geochemical signals (including cobalt) align with a potential mafic-hosted sulphide system. The discussion also covers how Tollu’s copper might be sourced from deeper magmatic processes, and why that matters for planning future exploration across the Tollu Fault and adjacent magnetic anomalies. Two high-grade copper zones (>1% and >2% Cu) were found in the gabbro, with the deepest, highest-grade copper around 1,050 m down-hole (roughly 820 m below the surface). Importantly, the hole ended about 130 m south of the previously known Tollu mineralisation and 400 m deeper than the deepest Tollu copper previously discovered. The presence of alteration (chlorite) and cobalt in the gabbro provides additional geological context that engineers future testing for potential copper-nickel sulphides. What does this mean for Tollu? It opens the door to exploring for a deeper, larger copper system and evaluating the broader magmatic intrusion framework around Tollu. It also supports a strategic shift to consider other magnetic anomalies in the region as potential hosts for similar deposits, consistent with Redstone’s Nebo Babel/Voices Bay-style targets. Next steps include ongoing structural analysis of the hole to plan additional drilling, and leveraging government co-funding to support further diamond and RC drilling targeted at Tollu’s deeper extensions and nearby magnetic intrusions (up to $220k for another diamond hole and around $160–$180k for RC drilling).
