  • March Meltdown: Same Story, New Year for the Red Wings
    Apr 2 2026

The calendar flipped to March… and so did the Detroit Red Wings season.

For the fourth straight year, the Red Wings fell apart when it mattered most. What once looked like a playoff team — built on health, momentum, and elite goaltending — completely unraveled.

This episode of Red Wings Rant breaks down:

The illusion of early-season success driven by health and hot goaltending

The drop-off from elite to “just good” in net with John Gibson and Cam Talbot

Back-to-back embarrassments vs. the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins

A major disconnect between Todd McLellan and the locker room

Why Dylan Larkin and the leadership group are running out of answers

We also dive into insights from Max Bultman on how Detroit’s season unraveled — from the Simon Edvinsson injury exposing depth issues, to special teams collapsing, to a team that simply stopped showing urgency.

This isn’t just about losing games.

It’s about a team that, right now, doesn’t look like it cares enough to win them.

And somehow… they’re still in it.

  • From Top of the East to 10th… What Happened to the Red Wings?
    Mar 26 2026

The Detroit Red Wings are running out of time… and answers.

After spending most of the season near the top of the Eastern Conference, the Wings have now dropped to 10th place following brutal back-to-back losses to the Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators.

Against Boston, it felt like a win stolen.
Jeremy Swayman stood on his head, stopping everything and completely flipping the game.

But against Ottawa? That’s where things get concerning.

    The Senators came in:

    • On a back-to-back
    • Missing Jake Sanderson and Thomas Chabot
    • Starting two rookie defensemen

And still… they controlled the game.

Detroit found themselves down 3-0, clawed back to 3-2, but couldn’t finish—again.

    Even with:

    • Dylan Larkin returning and scoring
    • Dominik Shine stepping up with a goal
    • A strong overall effort

    It wasn’t enough.

    Now the big question:
👉 Does this team actually have the elite talent to get over the hump?

And inside the locker room, Moritz Seider is starting to sound like the voice of accountability:

“That’s a very winnable game… if we’re not upset with ourselves, we’re doing something wrong.”

With only 11 games left and likely needing ~98 points to make the playoffs, the margin for error is gone.

    So what happens next?

    • Can the Wings respond?
    • Is this another March collapse?
    • Or is this finally where leadership takes over?

    Let’s talk about it.

  • Red Wings STEAL Point in Dallas, Kane Goes OFF — Season on the Line
    Mar 19 2026

The Detroit Red Wings are still fighting for their playoff lives — and somehow, they’re still standing.

After a brutal stretch that saw Detroit sliding down the standings, the Wings managed to steal a point against the Dallas Stars in a game they had no business staying in early. A rare mistake from Jake Oettinger opened the door… and Detroit walked right through it.

Then came a must-win game against the Calgary Flames — and while it wasn’t perfect, the Wings got the job done.

    But let’s be real:
This season is coming down to right now.

With the Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins up next — and the Columbus Blue Jackets refusing to lose — Detroit is in a full-on playoff war.

  • The Red Wings Are Collapsing Again… Is March Becoming a Nightmare?
    Mar 12 2026

The Detroit Red Wings were two minutes away from building momentum.

Instead, they blew a late 3-2 lead to the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers and lost 4-3 after allowing two goals in just a couple minutes.

A missed clear by Simon Edvinsson and a weak defensive sequence involving Justin Faulk turned a potential win into another brutal March collapse.

Now the Red Wings are fighting to hold onto a wild card spot.

Detroit currently holds the first wild card position by just one point over the Boston Bruins, who also have a game in hand. Columbus is only three points back with a game in hand of their own, and Ottawa is surging with just one regulation loss in their last ten games.

To make matters worse, injuries are starting to pile up.

    • Dylan Larkin was injured on a rush last Friday

    • Andrew Copp left Tuesday night’s game with an injury

    • A short-handed Red Wings roster ran out of gas late against Florida

Detroit did make moves at the trade deadline, adding Justin Faulk and bringing David Perron back, but the price was steep — including a first-round pick with no protection.

If the Red Wings continue sliding in March again, the worst-case scenario is suddenly becoming very real.

In this episode of Red Wings Rant, we break down:

    • The collapse against Florida

    • Whether the trade deadline moves actually improved the team

    • The brutal reality of the wild card race

    • Injuries to Dylan Larkin and Andrew Copp

    • Why depth players are becoming a major problem

    • Detroit’s upcoming games against Tampa Bay and Dallas

With Tampa Bay on Thursday and Dallas on Saturday, the Red Wings may have to find a way to survive without two of their most important forwards.

    The playoff race is tightening.

And the margin for error is disappearing fast.

  • Yzerman Finally Acts! Red Wings Trade for Perron & Justin Faulk
    Mar 6 2026

The Detroit Red Wings finally made their move at the NHL trade deadline.

Steve Yzerman adds two key pieces for the playoff push — bringing back veteran winger David Perron and acquiring top-four defenseman Justin Faulk.

    Detroit sent:

    • A conditional 4th-round pick for Perron
    • A 1st-round pick, 3rd-round pick and Justin Holl to St. Louis for Faulk

Perron returns to Detroit after previously playing with the Red Wings from 2022-2024, where he was one of the team’s most respected locker-room leaders and a key offensive contributor. The 37-year-old winger should help Detroit’s struggling five-on-five offense and bring playoff experience back into the lineup.

Justin Faulk addresses one of Detroit’s biggest needs — a right-shot top-four defenseman. Logging over 22 minutes a night, Faulk strengthens the second defensive pair, adds puck movement from the blue line, and provides valuable offensive production from the back end.

In this episode of Red Wings Rant, we break down:

    • Why bringing Perron back makes sense for Detroit
    • How Faulk stabilizes the Red Wings defense
    • Whether Detroit overpaid for the upgrade
    • What this means for the final playoff push
    • Whether Yzerman might still make another move

    The Red Wings needed help.

And now they finally have it.

  • Steve Yzerman Is On the Clock | Red Wings Trade Deadline Pressure
    Mar 6 2026

The Detroit Red Wings have done everything asked of them this season.

    They’ve responded to adversity.
    They’ve improved their penalty kill.
They’ve stayed in the playoff race all year long.

Now with the NHL trade deadline approaching, the pressure shifts to Steve Yzerman.

Inspired by the latest analysis from Max Bultman, this episode of Red Wings Rant dives into why Detroit’s front office needs to act before the deadline.

The Red Wings blew a 3-1 third-period lead to the Vegas Golden Knights, losing 4-3 in overtime — a painful reminder that this team still has clear weaknesses.

But those weaknesses have been obvious for months.

    Detroit needs:

    • A playoff-ready right-side defenseman • More hard offense in the top six • Support for Moritz Seider on the blue line • Another scoring threat behind Lucas Raymond and Dylan Larkin
The players have held up their end of the bargain.

Now it’s time for Yzerman to show belief in this locker room and give Detroit the boost it deserves for the final 20 games.

    We break down:

    • Why this trade deadline matters more than last year’s • The lingering impact of the quiet 2025 deadline • What Lucas Raymond and the locker room are signaling • Why standing pat could hurt momentum again • The realistic types of players Detroit should target
The Red Wings look ready to turn the corner.

But if they’re going to snap the playoff drought, they need one more push.

And that push has to come from Steve Yzerman.

  • Larkin Wins Gold… Now What? Red Wings Trade Pressure After Olympic Break
    Feb 26 2026

The Olympic break is over. The NHL trade freeze is lifted. And the Detroit Red Wings are back to work.

In this episode of Red Wings Rant, we reset the table on everything:

    • The latest trade rumors involving Elias Pettersson, Robert Thomas, Jordan Kyrou and Justin Faulk • Why Detroit still desperately needs top-six scoring and legitimate defensive help • How bad the 5-on-5 offense really is — and whether Steve Yzerman has to act
We also preview the return to play:

February 26 – at Ottawa Senators
February 28 – at Carolina Hurricanes

Why starting with a win matters.
Why Simon Edvinsson’s return is massive.
Why Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond benefiting from rest could swing momentum.

And of course — Dylan Larkin.

Larkin returns a gold medalist after Team USA’s first Olympic gold in 46 years. We break down:

    • How USA beat Canada in overtime • The goaltending dominance of Connor Hellebuyck • The 3-on-3 OT shift that exposed McDavid, MacKinnon and Makar • Why this was the deepest and most talented Team USA roster ever assembled
But we also address the controversy surrounding postgame locker room politics and why moments like this should belong to players — not politicians.

    This is a reset episode.
    For the Red Wings.
    For the trade deadline.
    For Hockeytown.

  • Is 96 Points Enough? Red Wings Playoff Math at the Olympic Break
    Feb 12 2026

The NHL is on Olympic break — and the Detroit Red Wings are sitting third in the Atlantic Division.

But what does that actually mean?

According to Max Bultman’s latest mailbag, the Eastern Conference cut line may land closer to 99 points this year — not the 91–92 we’ve seen recently. That makes the simple “.500 hockey gets you in” narrative a little too comfortable.

In this episode of Red Wings Rant, we break down:

    • Why 96 points might not be enough • Why Columbus is the real threat right now • The importance of staying in the divisional seed vs falling to wild card • Ideal playoff matchups (Montreal? Buffalo?) • Nightmare scenarios (Tampa or Carolina) • Whether Yzerman actually adds at the deadline this year • John Gibson’s extension debate • And why MLB is suddenly broadcasting the Detroit Red Wings after the FanDuel Sports bankruptcy
The league is frozen. The trade market is paused. But the playoff math is very real.

Detroit controls its destiny — for now.
