  • Saving Throes # 115 - At the Movies: The Great Kingdom (+ When We Were Wizards)
    Jul 17 2025

Welcome to the Saving Throes podcast! This is my Tabletop role-playing game podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a topic or theme along with my take on current happenings in the world of tabletop role-playing games and semi regular updates on the games I am currently involved with, or new games or products I have come across.

This week I am going to look at another TTRPG related film project. As a bonus I am also looking at an audio podcast as well. I am going to do a dive into the tumultuous history and final product for the Great Kingdom! What started as a feature length documentary but ended up transforming into a 6-episode limited series (and accompanying podcast series) is a bit of a mirror of the history of D&D itself! I have often talked about these 2 series on the show before and I figured now was a good time to really dig in. The short version is that both of these are worth your time, and you can even watch the show and listen to the podcast right now for free! Tune in to hear about the woes this project experienced to get where it is, and how you are able to access it today!

  • Pining for Pixels # 115 - Versus Mode: Stop Killing Games Vs. Video Games Europe
    Jul 15 2025

Welcome to the Pining For Pixels podcast! This is my video game variety show podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a subject or theme that interests me, and I will speak about what is on my mind in the world of video games!

Versus Mode returns this week to take a look at the current hot topic of the Stop Killing Games movement that has picked up some serious steam. I approached Versus Mode differently this time, I decided to do this episode as if it were a mock courtroom where each side is making their case. This isn't like other episodes where each side is scored. In this one, each side makes an argument based on their actual statements and my interpretation of their intent, followed by a final judgement. Since I am the judge in this scenario, I rule with my honest and true opinion on the matter based on all the arguments from each side. Tune in to hear my interpretation of what might happen were this to go into a courtroom setting!

  • Saving Throes # 114 - Pages Through the Ages: Overlooked Monster - Rakshasa
    Jul 10 2025

Welcome to the Saving Throes podcast! This is my Tabletop role-playing game podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a topic or theme along with my take on current happenings in the world of tabletop role-playing games and semi regular updates on the games I am currently involved with, or new games or products I have come across.

This week is a new variant of Pages Through the Ages - Overlooked Monsters! I will look through an individual monster from the history of a game and examine its many incarnations. This will be focussed on lesser known or lesser used creatures in general. You won't find the Beholder here for example. I am starting things off with a good examination of the many incarnations of the Rakshasa. While most players are familiar with this monster, I don't often see it in play as a player nor as a GM. However, these creatures have a gold mine of sinister resources for your D&D game if you want to instil nightmares into your players. Tune in to hear about the many expressions of this monster and how you might be able to combine its most iconic and dangerous traits to optimize the terror.

  • Pining for Pixels # 114 - Backlog RNG: Final Fight 2 & Night in the Woods
    Jul 8 2025

Welcome to the Pining For Pixels podcast! This is my video game variety show podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a subject or theme that interests me, and I will speak about what is on my mind in the world of video games!

Backlog RNG is a new segment where I randomly pull games from my extensive backlog of games with the aid of an online RNG. For this first episode I pulled 2 titles that are not at all alike - Final Fight 2 that was a title only available for the SNES, and Night in the Woods that is available on just about every modern platform. One is an arcade beat em up, the other a narrative adventure with a bit of walking simulator elements. In this new segment I am aiming to experience some of these games that have been on my backlog forever and determining if I still would like to complete them or if I can safely remove any. Tune in to hear if the 2 I pulled today made the cut.

  • Saving Throes # 113 - Mid-Year TTRPG Update
    Jul 3 2025

Welcome to the Saving Throes podcast! This is my Tabletop role-playing game podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a topic or theme along with my take on current happenings in the world of tabletop role-playing games and semi regular updates on the games I am currently involved with, or new games or products I have come across.

Since we are in the middle of the year and it is a holiday week in both Canada and the USA, I wanted to do a mid-year update for both my gaming shows, and this is the TTRPG update for Saving Throes! I go over the big game releases of the year so far, and also look forward at what is still technically scheduled to come this year, but who know how many of these titles will actually make it before December 31. I also review my New Year's resolutions and predictions from January to do a temperature check and see how it's going so far. Tune in to also hear how I plan to expand on one of my more favourite segments I sometimes do on the show.

  • Pining for Pixels # 113 - Mid-Year Check-in
    Jul 1 2025

Welcome to the Pining For Pixels podcast! This is my video game variety show podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a subject or theme that interests me, and I will speak about what is on my mind in the world of video games!

Now that the year is exactly half done, I thought it would be a good idea to look back to all the resolutions I made in the New Year, and see how well I have done so far. Also to see if any of my predictions I made have come true yet? In addition to all of that, I wanted to do a temperature check for potential game of the year contenders so far. Not specifically the games I will nominate for my show, but for the media at large. There are still plenty of great games to come in the next 6 months, and doing this made me realize there is still a pretty big blank spot for confirmed releases in November and December, but I also see some notable games that don't have release dates yet. Tune in to hear how many of my predictions for this year have already come true!

  • Saving Throes # 112 - Report Card: Free RPG Day 2025
    Jun 26 2025

Welcome to the Saving Throes podcast! This is my Tabletop role-playing game podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a topic or theme along with my take on current happenings in the world of tabletop role-playing games and semi regular updates on the games I am currently involved with, or new games or products I have come across.

Free RPG day is always a fun event for fans of TTRPGs. This year I noticed there was a lot of people out for it. I went to my local game store nice and early prior to open and was surprised to see a bit of a lineup already, and by the time the store opened, that lineup had grown quite a bit! On this week's episode I go over my experience with Free RPG day for this year, as well as my overall thoughts on what the offerings were like. Tune in to hear what my overall grade was for this year's annual event.

  • Pining for Pixels # 112 - Video Game Book Club: The Last Campfire
    Jun 24 2025

Welcome to the Pining For Pixels podcast! This is my video game variety show podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a subject or theme that interests me, and I will speak about what is on my mind in the world of video games!

The latest video game book club episode is all about a small game from Hello Games that was released back in 2020. This one made an impression, but was small enough that I feel many players completely missed it, to their detriment. This game may be small but it certainly packs an emotional punch. It is a game that explores themes of hopelessness and loneliness, and somehow manages to make an effective video game out of that. I had long wanted to play this one but put it off for a long time until now, and I am glad I am able o share this one with you. Tune in to hear why I think this game is worth your time.
