A spoiler-dense, chapter by chapter discussion of Gene Wolfe‘s science fantasy masterpiece The Book Of The New Sun, covering all four volumes and a little bit from Urth of the New Sun when necessary. They don‘t try to spoil anything else but, then again it‘s not a prepossessing podcast. https://www.patreon.com/rereadingwolfeCopyright 2020 All rights reserved. • RRW Bonus: CSE Claire Cooney and Carlos Hernandez interview
    Jan 31 2026

Craig talks to CSE Cooney and Carlos Hernandez

CSE Cooney met Wolfe early in her career, and he became something of a mentor to her. Craig caught up with her and her husband at Gen Con where they were releasing and demo-ing their new narrative role playing game Negocios Infernales (all about aliens infiltrating 16th century European culture). Check out her collection Bone Swans or the novel Twice Drowned Saint for a first read.

The Sword of the Lictor Cyriaca flashbacks in Chapters 11 and 12

No. You did not miss an episode. We have skipped Severian's actions immediately after leaving the party to discuss the end of Severian and Cyriaca's tryst -- related to Dorcas in her little motel room.

only a few episodes in but the fact that they're 3 years into the project and still discussing book 2 should give you a sense of the scope. I particularly enjoy the hosts' openness to feedback and discussions of listener theories. hoping they bring on guests with more diverse perspectives to discuss some of Wolfe's more problematic characterizations down the line.

impressively thorough, long-running, & responsive

This podcast is very well produced, well-paced, & both hilarious & profound. For those of us who too easily get lost in the sheer density of Wolfe’s books, ReReading Wolfe offers a blessed clarity & further reflection.

Highly recommended.

Funny, engaging hosts, enabled me to enjoy the wonderful Book of the New Sun

A boon for the discouraged reader
