Quick Tip: Basic Communication Model

When there is more than one person, everything begins and ends with communication. Conflicts, misinformation, cultural division, and even wars start with a failure to communicate. Communication was immortalized in the Paul Newman movie Cool Hand Luke, where the chain gang boss said, "What we have here is a failure to communicate." It is a leading problem underpinning poor organizational effectiveness and is cited in employee surveys as one of the top three issues with leaders. Most people are not educated on how to communicate and take communication for granted. They don't recognize the barriers that impact communications. This is a Basic Model of Communication. When these principles break down, communication fails leadership, organizations, and even whole cultures. That is the power associated with interpersonal communication.
