Pastor Hugh Chalk preaches from Psalm 1, beginning a new series looking at the book of Psalms.
As we arrive at a new year, Psalm 1 invites us to consider what a truly “blessed” and successful life looks like from God’s perspective. This psalm draws a sharp contrast between the righteous person who delights in and meditates on God’s Word, and the ungodly person who follows the world’s thinking and drifts further from God. The blessed person is like a tree planted by streams of water: rooted, nourished, fruitful, and sustained through every season, while the wicked are like chaff blown away by the wind. This message reminds us that the path to real prosperity is found not in worldly wisdom, but in saying “no” to sinful influences and saying a deep, daily “yes” to God’s Word, allowing the Holy Spirit to shape and strengthen us for whatever the coming year holds.
