The Profiling Evil Podcast delves into unsolved criminal cases from around the world, peeling back the layers of human behavior to reveal what drives evil. We look into the mind of the predator—their motivations, their victim selection, and the patterns that expose them. Each episode goes beyond headlines, examining how investigators identify red flags, connect the dots, and capitalize on the very errors offenders believe will never be found.

Your host, Mike King, brings over four decades of experience in criminal justice and behavioral analysis. A retired law enforcement executive, Mike served as Chief of Staff to Utah Attorney General Jan Graham and Weber County Attorney Reed M. Richards. He began his career at the Ogden Police Department, where he worked patrol, motor enforcement, and SWAT before moving into investigations where he led task forces that hunted serial predators and violent offenders.

Mike’s expertise earned him national recognition. He served as co-chair of the FBI’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Program (ViCAP) National Advisory Board, directed UTAP, the Utah Criminal Tracking and Analysis Project, and supported intelligence operations during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City.

After retiring from public service, Mike joined the Environmental Systems Research Institute (Esri), where he spent years consulting with police agencies around the globe on intelligence gathering, emergency communications, and major event management. In 2024, he retired again, this time to focus full-time on Profiling Evil and its growing community of true crime investigators, students, and enthusiasts.

Mike is an internationally recognized speaker, trainer, and adjunct professor, as well as a visiting scholar at multiple universities. He’s authored several acclaimed works on crime and human behavior, including:

· Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing

· Deceived: An Investigative Memoir of the Zion Society Cult

· She Knew No Fear

· Who Killed King Tut?

· Predators: Who Are They and How Do We Stop Them?

· Profilers

Mike’s investigative insight and behavioral expertise have been featured on Court TV, NewsNation, Law & Crime Network, Dr. Phil, History’s Greatest Mysteries, and 60 Minutes Australia, where his calm, analytical style helps audiences understand the why behind the world’s most chilling crimes.

At @ProfilingEvil, you’ll find deep dives into real investigations, expert analysis of offender behavior, and lessons in situational awareness and safety. It’s more than storytelling, it’s about learning how to recognize, understand, and ultimately disrupt evil.

  • Are Women More Prone to Self-Harm by Gun? The Camila Olmos Case | Profiling Evil
    Jan 2 2026

This video/podcast focuses on the Camila Mendoza Olmos case from the ground up, anchored by what has been publicly reported by investigators and credible local and national outlets. The 19-year-old woman vanished on Christmas Eve after leaving home on foot. Over the next six days, the search expanded, drawing in law enforcement, federal partners, organized volunteer teams, drones, and K-9 resources. A key development came from dashcam video that appeared to show a person believed to be Camila walking near a roadway shortly after she was last seen on home surveillance. Her father emphatically denies it’s his daughter but days later, deputies and FBI agents located human remains and a firearm in tall grass only a few hundred yards from her home.

We’re getting that update in real time, because Sheriff Javier Salazar came out within the last half hour in a hastily called press conference and confirmed that a body has been found during the search. He also made it clear that it’s still too early to say definitively that the body is Camila—he stressed that the Medical Examiner will make the final identification, and that could take days, possibly even a week. At this point, the sheriff said he does not suspect foul play, but the scene is still being processed carefully, because that’s how you protect evidence and get the truth. Examine the behavioral reality of how a person in crisis can appear calm or even briefly “better” when internal conflict gives way to a final decision. We’ll explore why investigators pay attention to routines like her walking habits, and those digital breadcrumbs that may have prompted the return to the location she was discovered. We’ll also address a common misconception about suicide by firearms where national data now shows more women might be turning to guns in their final moments.

  • Serial Killer Boat Captain, the Alan Wade Wilmer Sr. aka Pokey Case | Profiling Evil
    Dec 30 2025

A serial killer patrolled the waterways of coastal Virginia for over a decade, killing at least four people, and new DNA evidence has tied the cases together. Investigators say a commercial fisherman named Alan Wade Wilmer Sr. (Pokey) is the serial killer who murdered 20-year-old David Knobling, Robin Edwards who was just 14-years old, 18-year-old Lori Ann Powell and 18-year-old Teresa Lynn Spaw Howell. They were all found in or near the waterways that Alan Wade Wilmer Sr. treated as his second home. Two were shot along the shoreline at Ragged Island Wildlife Refuge, another stabbed and dumped in the Elizabeth River near Craney Island and a young woman abducted from a Hampton nightclub. She was strangled and left alongside a roadway near a marina. Let’s examine what these victims had in common and how Alan Wade Wilmer Sr. exploited his hunting grounds. Will new DNA testing reveal more victims of Alan Wade Wilmer Sr.?

  • Micah Smith Red Flag Warnings, What Cops Saw Before the Child Endangerment | Profiling Evil
    Dec 26 2025

One week before the near-death hike that permanently scarred Micah Smith’s children, police contacted Micah Smith alongside a roadway in a lifted white GMC with no plates, no registration, no insurance, and bald tires in cold rainy weather. The encounter escalates quickly as Micah Smith resists basic identification, and officers discover there are multiple weapons inside the vehicle. Smith reveals his obsession with hiking and going “to the top of the mountain” despite warnings about snow and conditions and reveals his marriage is falling apart. Did we just learn what might have motivated his reckless hike with his children? Let’s walk through the traffic stop, the bizarre behavior and the RED FLAGS that screamed of minimization, bravado, grievance, control, and a fixation on the mountains just days before his children ended up in the hospital and he ended up in jail.

One of the best most informative and channels out there!! Mike has quite a history in law enforcement and has interviewed serial killers such as Richard Ramirez and makes every part of a story informative!

Great True Crime Channel!

Already a big fan of Profiling Evil from YouTube fame. Enjoy listening on my commutes to work.

As someone not in law enforcement, I appreciate how Mr. King explains the legal requirements to solve a case. I enjoy learning about these cases in a factual presentation rather than a more dramatic presentation. Mr. King's personality comes through in the conversations. The interviews flow and the listener (in my opinion) gets the impression that the guest and Mr. King have been friends or associates for a length of time. This genuine quality comes through in both these podcasts and the YouTube presentations. I hope y'all like it!

Trustworthy and Interesting True Crime discussions
