This interview comes from the series Addiction Lives, a print and online collaboration between the journal Addiction and the Society for the Study of Addiction (SSA) which is edited by Professor Virginia Berridge with support from Jean O’Reilly. The series focuses on the views and personal experiences of people who have made particular contributions to the evolution of ideas in the journal’s field of interest.
This interview is with Professor Moira Plant, who is Professor Emerita of Alcohol Studies at the University of West of England in Bristol UK and Adjunct Professor at Curtin University Perth Australia. Her main research interests include women, alcohol and mental health, drinking in pregnancy and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. She is also a psychotherapist and trains and supervises counsellors. Moira was the UK lead on Gender Alcohol and Culture: An International Project (GENACIS) which now includes over 40 countries worldwide, and has acted as a consultant to the World Health Organisation, the UK and other governments, and to the US Collaborative Initiative on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (CIFASD).
