The first Podcast of 2025 and we look at jockeys beating the living daylights out of each other, the Longine results, discuss the limits on winning bets, give trainers down the banks for wanting to be paid for their free TV promotional opportunities, chat six races, four at the DRF and two from Musselburgh.
Best of luck tomorrow!
Leopardstown 1.15pm
Usually, I would look at age groupings, weight ranges, market position but when it comes to the DRF all I need to do is look at what Willie Mullins has entered.
Last season he won all eight Grade 1 races at this Festival and tomorrow we have four Grade 1’s and he saddles three of the current favourites, two of which trade odds on.
Mullins has won three of the last four winners of this race and here he saddles the first four on the tissue, his FINAL DEMAND currently the clear 7/4 favourite.
We were only saying earlier this morning that it is impossible to read what Mullins is up to. He won this last year with a 16/1 shot, in 2022 with another outsider, 11/1 but in 2021 he had the favourite bolt in @ 13/8
They were aged 5, 6, 7….he won this in 2015, 2016, 2017 with horse aged 5, 6, 7 5/1, 6/4f, and 8/11
Five of the 12 runners tomorrow come from his yard and one of those, JASMIN DE VAUX, won the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham last March.
Won easily on seasonal debut over 2 miles, he then sends it over 2 miles 4 furlongs, where it got stuffed 22 lengths by THE YELLOW CLAY. Now he sends it over 2 miles 6 furlongs and puts cheekpieces on.
It jumped like a pig last time and I know they are already looking for a race next month for it that will be much easier than this grade.
If I told you I knew which of his will win this, I’d be lying. You are much better off dutching FINAL DEMAND, SUPERSUNDAE and SOUNDS VICTORIOUS….50% profit, if JASMIN DE VAUX doesn’t jump like a buck and prove his win in that Bumper wasn’t a fluke.
RON – DUTCH as suggested
SEAN – FINAL DEMAND
Musselburgh 1.42pm
The Scottish Triumph Hurdle, the second favourite once raced here for Paul Nicholls and he came fourth of seven. He sits behind a favourite that joined Harry Derham at the start of this year, from France and whoever priced him up as favourite is applying guesswork.
The second, third and fourth favourites are maidens in this country….I have not got a clue what to expect from any of them.
The French have a horse over there called NIETSCHE HAS, and the current fourth favourite tomorrow, STATIC, ran 5th to it when they sent it over here for a race at Chepstow, having previously been second to EAST INDIA DOCK.
At the age of just three, they have retired NIETSCHE HAS to stud, but he had won nearly £250,000, just four wins in a seven race career….if you can call it a career?
So what wins this tomorrow? No idea….but at around 5/1 I’ll have a place only bet STATIC. At least I know about him!
RON – STATIC – PLACE ONLY
SEAN – HOSAAMM – E.W.
Leopardstown 1.50pm
Mullins has won the last three running’s of this and six of the last 10….surprise, surprise!
Danny Mullins has ridden the last two of those plus, he was on FOOTPAD back in 2016 and Mullins has never won this with the horse trading favourite. Only one of those six winners he has traded bigger than 6/1.
Tomorrow the current favourite is HELLO NEIGHBOUR, trained by Gavin Cromwell. Third favourite is the horse that one beat on deb...
