Kevin Hines’s story centers on his struggle with bipolar disorder and a life-changing moment in 2000 when, at age 19, he jumped from the Golden Gate Bridge in a suicide attempt. Miraculously, he survived the fall and was rescued.

Afterward, he went through a long recovery process and chose to speak openly about his experience. His story is about moving from deep despair to hope, using his survival as a way to advocate for mental health awareness and encourage others to seek help before it’s too late.

Breck Bednar was a 14-year-old boy from Surrey who loved gaming and computers. In 2013 he began chatting online with Lewis Daynes, an 18-year-old who pretended to be a successful computer programmer and slowly gained Breck’s trust.

Despite warnings from his mother, Breck agreed to meet Daynes at his flat in Essex on 17 February 2014. Shortly after arriving, Daynes murdered him. He was later arrested and sentenced to life in prison.

After Breck’s death, his mother Lorraine Bednar created the Breck Foundation to educate young people about the dangers of online grooming and meeting strangers from the internet.

The Eriksson twins, Ursula and Sabina Eriksson, are Swedish identical twins who became internationally known after a disturbing 2008 incident in England that was partly filmed for the BBC series Motorway Cops. After being removed from a coach on the M6 motorway, both women suddenly ran into high-speed traffic and were struck by vehicles yet survived, astonishing onlookers by standing up and continuing to behave erratically. Authorities reported that the twins appeared paranoid and delusional, allegedly believing people were trying to harm them, and the case was later widely described as an example of shared psychosis, or folie à deux. Shortly after being released from police custody, Sabina fatally stabbed a man in Staffordshire and was later convicted of manslaughter following psychiatric evaluation, while Ursula recovered after hospitalization, making the case one of the most unsettling and widely discussed modern examples of shared delusional disorder.

In September 2016, 23-year-old RAF gunner Corrie McKeague vanished in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, after a night out with friends. CCTV showed him walking into an area with BIFFA bins in the early hours of 24 September, and his mobile phone signal later tracked near a landfill site — leading investigators to theorize he may have fallen into a bin that was then emptied into a refuse truck. Despite extensive searches and a high-profile investigation, no remains have ever been found. In 2022 an inquest concluded his death was likely caused by being crushed in a refuse vehicle, though his body has never been recovered.
