In 2023, a man was convicted of plotting to kidnap and murder TV presenter Holly Willoughby, after assembling a "kidnap kit" and discussing the plan online, prompting a major police operation and her temporary withdrawal from public life.

Robert Wone was a highly respected young attorney and devoted husband living in Washington, D.C., known for his intelligence, quiet charm, and strong sense of duty. A second-generation Chinese American, he graduated from the College of William & Mary and went on to earn his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He was deeply involved in public service, including work with the Asian American community and legal nonprofits. On August 2, 2006, Robert made what seemed like an ordinary visit to stay overnight at a friend’s home — a decision that would unexpectedly and tragically change everything.
