  • Perko's Podcast: Episode 017: Finding Freedom After Grief w/ Rachel Faulkner Brown Part Two
    Oct 16 2020
    Welcome back to Perko's Podcast!
I hope that you are doing well in your part of the world, and that wherever this episode today reaches you that you will be able to say "it is well with my soul." My podcast guest today, Rachel, has an incredible story. She has experienced the depths of grief and has found freedom through a relationship with Jesus. I'm so excited for her to share her story with you. Let me re-introduce you as we continue out conversation...
Rachel Faulkner Brown is a girl with a past like your worst nightmare and a present that is pretty darn fun. She has lived through losing two husbands tragically in an instant, one to an aneurysm and one in an Air Force plane crash. She loves marriage so much that she took a chance on it again and married the most interesting man in the world who is their rock and secret weapon on most days. Her favorite jobs are being a wife, and being a mom to her two teenagers, Davis and Campbell. Her role as a mom is the hardest most rewarding thing she's have ever done or will do.
Rachel loves ministering to women. Whether she's on the road speaking, writing bible studies, or creating healing retreats for widows, she just loves the younger version of the girl she once was. You know the ones….bored Christians who know there has got to be something better, emotionally bankrupt, broken, and great at hiding. Yes, that was her. She loves freedom more than anything else on earth and finds herself saying at least once a day..it is for FREEDOM that Christ has set us free. She really wants to be your friend and she would love to take you bargain shopping and walk out of a store in a new outfit that cost you less than a cup of fancy coffee. Jesus, healing, freedom and my family are her jam.

  • Perko's Podcast Episode 034: Journey of the Soul Part One w/ Bill and Kristie Gaultiere
    Feb 15 2022

    Welcome back to Perko's Podcast!

It is my pleasure to speak with Bill and Kristie Gaultiere today on the podcast...

Bill is a psychologist and ordained pastor, specializing in ministry to pastors. He and Kristi are the authors of Journey of the Soul, which was #1 on Amazon in Christian Counseling. He was personally mentored for many years by Dallas Willard and Ray Ortlund Sr. His earlier book Your Best Life in Jesus’ Easy Yoke tells the story of his spiritual renewal from anxious living and burnout and introduces the message and way of Soul Shepherding.

As a Spiritual Formation Pastor, he’s served in a mega-church and a church plant. He’s also trained over 1,000 lay counselors and taught courses in Christian psychology and spirituality at the graduate school level. He and Kristi train pastors and other men and women in ministry in their Soul Shepherding Institute and Spiritual Direction certificate program. Bill has been speaking in churches and conferences since 1987 and especially enjoys speaking with Kristi. You can listen to their weekly Soul Talks podcast or read their weekly Soul Shepherding blog, which we will also link for you in the show notes.

Kristi is a psychotherapist and spiritual director for women in ministry and pastors’ wives. She co-leads Soul Shepherding with Bill. She was personally mentored by Jane Willard and Dr. Jan Stoop. As a pastor’s wife, mother, and ministry professional, Kristi offers empathy and wisdom from her experience personally and as a therapist who has spent many thousands of hours caring for people. Kristi enjoys speaking, training, teaching, consulting, counseling, and retreat leading with Bill, as well as recording their weekly Soul Talks podcast.

I enjoyed talking to Bill and Kristie about their newest book, Journey of the Soul, and I hope that this conversation and these resources will also be helpful for you in your own soul care journey. Let’s begin the conversation with Bill and Kristie…

  • Perko's Podcast Episode 027: Be At Ease w/ Clay Cooney Part Two
    Jul 9 2021

    Welcome back to Perko's Podcast!

Well today, I am excited to introduce you to Clay Cooney. Clay is from the metro Atlanta, GA area. He grew up in an incredible family with two loving parents and three younger brothers. Clay’s father is a real estate attorney and his mum is a stay at home mum. Clay majored in Economics and thought he wanted to be a lawyer like his dad for most of his life, but had a change of heart during his last year of university.

After graduation, he went to work for a non-profit organization called Lighthouse Family Retreat, where families dealing with childhood cancer come to the beach for a week long getaway. After coming back to Atlanta where he had accepted a job doing commercial title insurance and he became involved in a new church plant that was just getting started in his hometown. He spent about one year working for a consulting firm in the Atlanta area and started a small business called Be At Ease Co. before making the decision to pursue ministry full time.

Clay joined the North Point Residency Program, where he had the opportunity to work for North Point Community Church and attend Dallas Theological Seminary simultaneously. He has been working on his Masters of Theology degree and is currently the Director of Young Adults at North Point. The young adults is a new ministry that is being built in the Alpharetta area for adults in their 20’s. Clay also met his (now) wife in the residency program and got married last year in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. It was a crazy year, but they have loved getting to be married.

I hope you enjoy this conversation with my friend, Clay Cooney…

  • Perko's Podcast Episode 026, Part Two: Becoming Emotionally Healthy w/ Pete Scazzero
    Jun 11 2021

    Welcome back to Perko's Podcast!

Today on the podcast is someone that I greatly admire, who has helped shape me, and really has been a foundational part of the reason I started this podcast. My guest today is the Soul Care legend himself, Pete Scazzero.

I first came across Pete’s work through his book the Emotionally Healthy Leader. Since then I have been through the Emotionally Healthy Spirituality and Relationships content, I’ve been a part of some leadership cohorts with Pete and ultimately it has shaped much of my experience in this area of Soul Care. When I first came across his work, I was very unhealthy emotionally and although I am still a novice in this space God has used it to literally transform my life. Well for those of you who are not as familiar with Pete Scazzero let me introduce him to you.

Pete lead New Life Fellowship Church for 26 years in Queens NY where they are still members. He also co-founded Emotionally Healthy Discipleship, which is a phenomenal program that I highly recommend. Emotionally Healthy Discipleship is a groundbreaking ministry that moves the church forward by slowing the church down in order to multiply deeply changed leaders and disciples.

Pete hosts the top-ranked Emotionally Healthy Leader podcast and is the author of a number of bestselling books, including The Emotionally Healthy Leader and Emotionally Healthy Spirituality. Pete and his wife Geri also developed The Emotionally Healthy Discipleship Course (Part 1 and 2), a powerful resource that moves people from a shallow to a deep relationship with Jesus.

I hope you enjoy this conversation with my friend, Pete Scazzero…
