Tax or levy or fee for a bad LNG plan, dropping the Te Reo name for the school lunch program, the race baiting, the rage farming, the U-turns and downplaying of bad decisions and begging for bipartisan acceptance of their ideas - it’s a flood of distractions from the coalition to make you forget something really basic - they buggered up the economy and we are all paying the price for it.

This week’s announcement of a new levy to pay for a new LNG terminal to save us from an energy crisis was a masterclass in misdirection - from denying a tax is a tax because it’s ring fenced, to having state funded media prominently platform fossil fuel lobbyists as expert voices unchallenged all while ignoring an obvious alternative because it doesn’t benefit the lobbyist funders.

Alberto Brandolini’s law of the asymmetry of bullshit is a really important one to be aware of as we see MPs spout vague data points to gaslight the voters into believing they’re doing a great job.
