Pat Smith aka Action Nan

From walking the entire coastline of Cornwall to setting up the influential Final Straw Cornwallcampaign; cleaning 52 beaches in a year to being a prime mover in the Plastic Free St Austellgroup, Pat Smith makes her impact on this planet.

 

Her interest in the environment started as a geography teacher – a job she did for five years until she had her children.

 

“Some people think ‘how awful, but I cannot do anything’ while others think ‘how awful, someone needs to do something’. And she did!  As her alter ego Action Nan she completed a 300-mile charity challenge walk around the entire Cornish coastline in aid of the RNLI. Being active and determined to make a change for good is part and parcel of her personality. It was only a matter of time before Pat set up her own campaign to tackle the plastic pollution and climate crisis that affects us all. Her new year’s resolution for 2018 was to carry out 52 beach cleans and litter picks. Over the year, Pat cleaned beaches from Coverack on the Lizard Peninsula to Blackpool Sands in Devon. As a result of the mammoth clean-up operation, Pat appeared on The One Show, BBC Three’s Amazing Humans and was interviewed by Jeremy Vine on his Radio 2 show. A series of videos Pat made around the beach cleans were watched by a staggering 38.5 million people across the world.

 

Καλώς ήρθατε στο νέο, δυνατό, podcast της Startagers που  ανοίγει τον ήχο της φωνής σας. Σκοπός της δημιουργίας του podcast  Let’s Get Loud! Startagers! είναι να ακουστεί δυνατά ότι η ηλικία δεν είναι εμπόδιο στην αλλαγή που οι ίδιοι επιθυμούμε. Στον πρώτο κύκλο επεισοδίων θα μοιραστούμε ιστορίες από την Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό με ανθρώπους που δεν φοβήθηκαν να ξεκινήσουν οι ίδιοι την αλλαγή που ονειρεύτηκαν. Δεν περίμεναν κάποιον να τους δείξει τον δρόμο, άκουσαν την φωνή τους και ξεκίνησαν το ταξίδι, χωρίς η ηλικία να σταθεί εμπόδιο στα σχέδιά τους. Ο πρώτος κύκλος επεισοδίων υλοποιείται στο πλαίσιο του Εκπαιδευτικού προγράμματος Let’s Get Loud! Startagers! στοχεύει στην περιβαλλοντική ευαισθητοποίηση ατόμων μέσης και τρίτης ηλικίας και στην καταπολέμηση των ηλικιακών διακρίσεων.

 

Υλοποιείται από την Startagers σε συνεργασία με τη MEDASSET, και με αποκλειστική δωρεά από το ΤΙΜΑ Κοινωφελές Ίδρυμα, στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος Σημεία Στήριξης που συγχρηματοδοτούν 8 κοινωφελείς οργανισμοί.
