  • Voices of Equality: Paula Cosme Pinto on Gender, Media & the Rise of Fascist Narratives
    Mar 26 2026

In this episode of Podcast Portugal, we sit down with journalist, columnist, and communications expert Paula Cosme Pinto for a thoughtful and timely conversation on the issues shaping modern Portugal—and beyond.

Drawing on her years in media and her work exploring gender and society, Paula shares her perspective on the evolving role of women in Portuguese public life, the progress made, and the challenges that persist beneath the surface. From representation in media and leadership to the cultural expectations still influencing everyday life, this is a grounded and honest look at where things stand today.

The conversation also turns to a more complex and pressing concern: the re-emergence of divisive and populist narratives across Europe. Paula reflects on the subtle ways these ideas take hold, how language and media framing play a critical role, and why awareness and open dialogue are more important than ever.

Balancing serious themes with clarity and insight, this episode explores the intersection of media, identity, and responsibility—both personal and collective.

As always, Podcast Portugal brings you voices that matter, sharing stories that resonate far beyond borders.

  • Reclaiming Real Connection: The Rise of The Offline Club Lisboa
    Feb 26 2026

In this episode of Podcast Portugal, we speak with The Offline Club Lisboa, the Lisbon chapter of a growing global movement encouraging people to swap screen time for real time. Founded on the belief that constant digital connection is quietly eroding real human interaction, The Offline Club creates phone-free spaces where presence, creativity and genuine connection take priority.

Originating in Amsterdam and now thriving in Lisbon under the guidance of organisers Joëlle Hartog and Lilly Parla, The Offline Club Lisboa hosts offline social hangouts, creative sessions, board games, drink-and-chat evenings and digital detox challenges. Each event invites participants to disconnect from their devices — often using a playful “phone hotel” — and reconnect with themselves and others in meaningful, distraction-free environments.

In this conversation, we explore the cultural pushback against digital overload, the psychology behind phone-free experiences, and why creating modern “third places” for offline connection may be more important than ever. We also discuss the balance between online convenience and real-world presence, and what participants consistently take away from choosing to be offline together.

Whether you’re curious about digital wellbeing, community building, or simply craving deeper human connection in an always-online world, this episode offers thoughtful insights and practical inspiration.

Our conversation mostly focuses on the history of the Portuguese language, examining not only its grammar and vocabulary, but also its musicality, rhythm, and emotional expression. • Heat, Cold & Light: The Science Behind Modern Recovery
    Feb 5 2026

In this episode of Podcast Portugal, we sit down with ASYO Recovery Centre to explore the science and real-world impact behind modern recovery practices — sauna therapy, cold plunges, red light therapy, and gentle cardiovascular movement — and why recovery is increasingly being seen as preventative healthcare, not a luxury.

Drawing on long-term Finnish research from Dr Jari Laukkanen’s lab, we discuss how regular sauna use (2–4 times per week) has been associated with around a 20–22% reduction in cardiac events, while near-daily use (4–7 times per week) has shown reductions of up to 60–63%, alongside significantly lower risks of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. We unpack how sauna bathing mimics mild cardiovascular exercise, supporting heart health, circulation, stress reduction, sleep quality and mental wellbeing.

The conversation also dives into the emerging science of cold water immersion, including its effects on the nervous system, stress resilience, mood regulation and depression, as well as the importance of education and safe exposure.

We explore contrast therapy — combining heat and cold — and why it appears to amplify recovery benefits.

Finally, we examine red and near-infrared light therapy, discussing its role in mitochondrial function, inflammation reduction, circulation, tissue repair and mental health, and how stacking these modalities can compound results. Throughout the episode, ASYO share how this growing body of research aligns closely with what they see daily in their clients: improved energy, mood, recovery, and long-term resilience.
