In South Omaha, federal and local law enforcement concluded a months-long investigation targeting illegal firearms trafficking and gang activity. Officers arrested 36 alleged gang members and associates and seized 69 firearms, including handguns, assault rifles, shotguns, and a .50-caliber sniper rifle. Approximately $40,000 in cash, as well as small amounts of cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, and marijuana, were also recovered. Twenty individuals have been indicted or criminally charged by complaint. This operation was a joint effort with federal authorities, and arrests have been made. Police are not currently seeking public assistance in relation to this case.
Near 30th Street and Interstate 480, an alleged traffic violation escalated when a trooper observed a motorcycle without a license plate. The rider reportedly fled when a traffic stop was attempted. The Nebraska State Patrol, with aerial assistance from the Omaha Police Department’s ABLE-1 unit, coordinated the pursuit. The suspect was apprehended after the pursuit, and an arrest was made. This incident remains under review.
No incidents were reported at the University of Nebraska Omaha campus during the past week.
No public alerts or suspect descriptions requiring citizen assistance are active at this time.
There is no indication of increased activity in any particular crime category, but the successful multi-agency firearms operation suggests ongoing efforts to address gang and firearms-related offenses in the area. Residents are encouraged to remain observant and report suspicious activity.
Anyone with information related to recent criminal activity can contact the Omaha Police Department tip line or, in the case of an emergency, call 911.
