    Detective Lila Novak arrived at the mansion, summoned by a distressed maid who discovered the body of the wealthy businessman, Victor Hollingsworth. The victim lay in his study, a single gunshot wound to his head, and the room was locked from the inside. The only other person in the house was Victor's wife, Evelyn, who claimed to have been in the garden when the shot rang out.

    Lila examined the scene, noting the shattered window and the gun near Victor's hand. It appeared to be a suicide, but something didn't feel right. The maid mentioned that Victor and Evelyn had been arguing fiercely the night before.

    As Lila questioned Evelyn, she noticed inconsistencies in her story. Evelyn claimed she hadn't seen Victor since their argument, but a half-empty cup of coffee sat on his desk, still warm. Lila discovered a hidden safe behind a painting, containing Victor's will. To her surprise, the sole beneficiary was not Evelyn, but his estranged daughter from a previous marriage.

    Lila confronted Evelyn, who broke down and confessed. She had laced Victor's coffee with sleeping pills, shot him, and staged the suicide. Evelyn had discovered the will and knew she would be left with nothing. Using a rope, she had climbed out the window, locked the door from the outside, and pulled the rope back through, explaining the shattered glass.

    With the mystery solved, Lila realized that greed and betrayal could drive people to commit the most heinous acts, even against those they once loved.
