Collaborative Social Change is delighted to announce the release of our very own Monica Macias’ biography, Black Girl from Pyongyang: In Search of My Identity. As the daughter of Equatorial Guinea’s first president, Macias faced extraordinary experiences including being raised by the first family in North Korea, which served as the launching pad for her international upbringing. Through her personal story, Macias' book explicates various biases, racist beliefs, and inequalities within and across the diverse contexts she lived to contribute to preventing and addressing widespread identity-based violence. In this episode of Glocal Peace and Conflict, Macias explains her intentions in sharing her story with the world and pivotal moments from her struggle to publish the English version of her book on her own terms.
