Memories that you will always have and cherish - forever. Ela’s monologue is reflective, thought-provoking and extremely heartfelt. She cleverly weaves the background of her artwork into her story and the artwork she produced as part of the story of my life project embodies her grief, sorrow, healing and journey of empowerment to strength. • Coping with suicide
    Jul 17 2021
This is yet another Story of My Life monologue brought to you in conjunction with the Arts Council and a UK-based mental health charity; Our Solutions. The Story of My Life project involves a group of participants embarking on an art project whereby struggles and challenges experienced in life are communicated and conveyed through a piece of art, shared as a written story, and developed into a monologue. Each and every monologue is unique, authentic and depicts a story that is of individual experience.  This story is about friendship, laughter, loss, and pain.  More than 700 000 people die by suicide every year, which is one person every 40 seconds. Suicide is a global phenomenon and occurs throughout the lifespan. Effective and evidence-based interventions can be implemented at population, sub-population and individual levels to prevent suicide and suicide attempts. There are indications that for each adult who died by suicide there may have been more than 20 others attempting suicide. 77% of suicides occurred in low- and middle-income countries in 2019. Suicide accounted for 1.3% of all deaths worldwide, making it the 17th leading cause of death in 2019.
