The process of becoming a star

    Calling

    • You have something to say that needs to be said, an expression of the Kingdom.
    • Your calling will be ridiculed, downplayed, and dismissed
    • Discover a circle of like-hearted people

    Invitation

    • Invitation to come on stage-starts out terrifying, then becomes something that brings our hearts alive in joy
    • We need to give ourselves permission to accept the invitation
    • Our creativity is about bringing something into existence that doesn’t currently exist

    Enemy

    • Twists lies to sound like truth
    • He takes what God creates and distorts it
    • Goal is to get us to tap out and quit, to blow up our lives
    • He introduces the trauma/sadness/grief we need to become who we were meant to become

    Questions

    • What is your talent? Gifting? Calling? Purpose?
    • How has that been dismissed? Ridiculed? Downplayed?
    • In what ways do you step into sharing your voice?
    • Who are the like-hearted people in your life, the circle of people who love the same things, moving in the same direction?
    • In what ways have you been invited on stage? How have you resisted the invitation?
    • How do you express your creativity and gifting? What do you bring into existence that doesn’t currently exist?
    • How has your grief shaped who you became?

  • The Reason for the Roadblocks
    Apr 1 2025

Coming up on the Men at the Movies podcast, I talk with Lee Dickerson, host of the Black and White Review podcast and plays the role of Malcus in the upcoming short film, Shema. Lee shares the story of finding his way through roadblocks to transformation, and the importance of healthy families. The overall theme of his journey is that anything can be redeemed.

Support Shema through Kickstarter here through April 3rd.

    More about Shema

    • Shema trailer

    • For more information on Shema, visit refocuscreative.com/shema

    • More ways to follow: Shema socials (IG, TikTok)

    • Black & White Reviews: Spotify, Apple

    About Lee

I'm a father, a son, a worshipper, musician and a podcaster. You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not..God changed my life 10 years ago and is continuing to transform my, and my family's, heart. My love for film and music has been a great way to strike up conversations with non-believers and to express a new perspective of how God can speak to us through entertainment mediums that may not have been intentional by the creators. He works all things for good and I love seeking out new examples of that.

    Questions

    • When you look back at your life, where can you see Jesus now that you couldn’t see him in the moment?
    • What is your first response when problems arise?
    • Where are you more comfortable: in relationship or in evangelism?
    • How has God used difficult situations you’ve been through to help minister to others going through similar circumstances?

  • Chasing a Dream
    Mar 15 2025

Coming up on the Men at the Movies podcast, I have a conversation with filmmaker and content creator Chris Bowden from Refocus Creative. His desire is to create high quality, authentic stories. His goal is not to push people away, but to draw them to Jesus through what they see. Polished caricatures don’t move us to transform, but seeing the truth demonstrated in characters we relate to.

Chris has also written, directed and produced several short films, some of which have been accepted into various film festivals. His next project Shema, a biblical-fiction short film inspired by The Chosen, is his most ambitious project yet. Filming begins this March at Capernam Studios in Texas, followed by a few production days in Massachusetts this June. You can follow the Kickstarter to get notified on launch. You can also follow Refocus Creative on Instagram and Facebook to learn more about their upcoming projects.
