Sunday Morning at Calvary Chapel Faith Fellowship with Pastor Jim Sweigart.
The Sermon on the Mount, delivered by Jesus on a hillside overlooking the Sea of Galilee, is a manifesto of kingdom living for believers. It outlines the principles and virtues of the kingdom of heaven, describing the traits of a citizen of the kingdom. The sermon begins with the Beatitudes, eight declarations that describe the attitudes and outlook Jesus desires in His followers, starting with the realization of spiritual bankruptcy and dependence on Jesus.
The Beatitudes describe the characteristics of those who will be blessed in the kingdom of heaven. Meekness, hunger for righteousness, mercy, purity of heart, and peacemaking are highlighted as virtues that lead to inheriting the earth, satisfaction, seeing God, and being called children of God. These qualities reflect a deep longing for God’s righteousness and a commitment to living out His will.
Persecution for righteousness is expected for those who follow Jesus.
