In this message from Matthew 3, Alex explores the ministry of John the Baptist and the significance of Jesus’ baptism in the River Jordan. Looking at the man, the message, and the method of John’s ministry, we see how he prepared the way for the coming King by calling people to repentance and pointing them to the promised Messiah.
When Jesus comes to be baptised, heaven opens, the Spirit descends, and the Father declares, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” This powerful moment reveals the identity and mission of Jesus and marks the beginning of His public ministry.
The passage challenges us with an important question: how will we respond to Jesus? Will we be indifferent like the religious leaders, intimidated like Herod, or will we seek Him and worship Him like the wise men?
Ultimately, this message reminds us that through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection we are invited into a living hope and a restored relationship with God.
