The church in Antioch was diverse culturally, economically, and socially. Yet all these different people that made up the church united around the mission of God and spread the gospel out throughout the world. Today, we’re going to learn from the church in Antioch, how we too can be partners in the progress of bringing Jesus to the nations. As we partner with God’s mission, we also find ourselves being transformed into more worshipful and trusting people.

Like Martha we sometimes ask a variation of the question “Jesus, where were you when _________ happened?” Like Martha we all have a Lazarus. A Lazarus can be anything in our life that we really love or hold onto that we desperately need Jesus to bring to life. In our text today, Jesus gives us a picture of who He is in the middle of our disappointment and what he does through the thing that we thought was long gone and without hope. As we will read in the text, Jesus goes into the ring with death and because of that, resurrection is not just a past or a future hope but it’s a present reality. Today Jesus can bring hope in the hurt.

Throughout the Bible, God uses doorways and gates to show His powerful sovereignty and eternal plan through Jesus. Doors are a representation of invitation, safety, comfort, and shelter. In John 10, Jesus captures these truths in a powerful take down of the failed leadership of their time and beautifully illustrates HIs Deity using an I AM figure of speech that defines what a good shepherd does.
