Did you know that a chamois’s heart is about twice the size of a human’s and that its blood contains three to five times more red blood cells? These exceptional adaptations allow it to efficiently oxygenate its muscles and tackle steep elevation gains without ever becoming short of breath. Agile and fast, it is nevertheless very sensitive to disturbances caused by human activities, particularly in winter and during the breeding season.

Did you know that the Alpine ibex nearly went extinct in the 19th century ? Due to intensive hunting, only around a hundred individuals survived. Now protected, this large herbivore is perfectly adapted to life on rocky cliffs thanks to its adhesive hooves and exceptional sense of balance. Despite this recovery, the species remains fragile, especially in winter, when any disturbance results in a critical loss of energy.
