Loving Beyond Transaction
“But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven.”
— Matthew 5:44–45
Jesus stretches love beyond what feels reasonable.
Most of us understand love as reciprocal.
We give when we receive.
We extend kindness when it is returned.
But God’s love is not transactional.
God’s love never ceases.
It never fails.
It is consistent.
Persistent.
Relentless.
It does not wait for worthiness.
It does not calculate return.
And we are invited into that same way of being.
Loving our enemies does not mean excusing harm or abandoning boundaries.
It means refusing to let resentment define us.
When we choose to pray instead of curse,
to bless instead of retaliate,
we reflect the heart of God.
And in loving this way —
we bear the family resemblance.
Peace be with you.
