It will even penetrate to the very core of our being where soul and spirit, bone and marrow meet! It interprets and reveals the true thoughts and secret motives of our hearts. There is not one person who can hide their thoughts from God, for nothing that we do remains a secret, and nothing created is concealed, but everything is exposed and defenseless before his eyes, to whom we must render an account." 1 Corinthians 2:11 says who can really see into a person's heart and know his hidden impulses except for that person's own spirit? And this passage in Hebrews 4 tells us that the Lord's spirit does interpret and expose the true thoughts and secret motives of our hearts. This is why it's so important to daily and perhaps more often ask Holy Spirit to examine our hearts and reveal where we need to be purified, where we need to change our mindset, where we need to ask for more understanding -- because if we allow wrong thinking or wrong motives to start directing us, we'll be like a ship that starts off 1 degree off-course and misses the continent we're supposed to land on completely. And when it comes to other people, we don't need to be worrying ourselves with trying to understand the motives in the hearts of others. All we can do is judge by their actions. Matthew 7:16-19 says that the fruit of their actions will reveal who they are. If the tree is good, it will bear good fruit, but if it is bad, it will only bear rotten fruit and deserves to be cut down and burned.
