A couple of summers ago, Ondřej Palát signed a five-year contract with the New Jersey Devils. While his production and experience are sometimes solid, he is definitely overpaid. However, he does have a history of stepping up his game when it matters most. Maybe there's some upside to his capabilities.

Steve Kouleas was recently on NHL Network talking about potential trade packages for Jacob Markstrom. At one point, he suggested that the New Jersey Devils should either trade away Dawson Mercer, Simon Nemec, or a few high-end draft picks for his services. Patrik Laine wants a fresh start and might be traded this offseason. While he might not be a top option, it's still something that Tom Fitzgerald should inquire.

In a follow-up from yesterday's episode, I decided to analyze which New Jersey Devils players are considered to be "untouchable" or on the "hot seat" when it comes to trades. Since there are a decent amount of players signed long-term, there aren't that many options. Former Chicago Blackhawks head coach Jeremy Colliton joined the Devils' coaching staff. Did I mention that I am enjoying the Stanley Cup Final? I have the Florida Panthers in six.
