Let's read about the settlers of Ilus, humanity's first extrasolar colony. The humans have brought everything they need with them, including oppressive corporations and violent resource contention. Of course there are also the mysterious alien structures and the dire danger they pose to all humanity, but that's the kind of stuff only a space dork like James Holden would care about.
