In this episode, we sit down and talk with Keep Savannah Beautiful board member, Joseph Serpa.
Joseph Serpa was born in Hopewell, Virginia. His father and mother were both active-duty military. Six months after being born, Joseph and his family moved overseas to Germany. At the age of 4, Joseph moved to Savannah, where his father retired from the Army after serving 22 years. Joseph’s father then joined the Chatham County Board of Education Police Department, where he would eventually serve 21 years. Joseph graduated from Bethesda Academy in 2007, where he fell in love with history. After graduation, he immediately went to work. Joseph worked as a mechanic at different area dealerships for years until he decided to make a career change.
In 2014 Joseph was hired as an outside sales representative for Oglethorpe/Grayline tours of Savannah. Joseph quickly learned everything about Savannah tourism in a few short years. In 2016 Oglethorpe Tours was sold to Old Savannah Tours, where Joseph was hired as assistant director of operations. In 2018 Joseph was promoted to director of operations, managing a staff of 162 employees. In 2021 Joseph was nominated to sit on the board of directors for Buy Local Savannah. He is currently serving his second term. Joseph resides in District 6 with his wife Macy and 6-year-old daughter Leona. His interests include politics, history, tourism, and fishing. His skills include leadership, logistics, and vehicle diagnostics and repair.
