Lent and the Significance of '40'

The number “40” appears in the Bible some 157 times. In Sacred Scripture, the number “40” signifies such things as new life, new growth, transformation, a change from one great task to another great task, etc. “40” also symbolizes a time of trial, testing, and waiting.
