The Lakers returned quickly from Denver on Friday as they faced off against the Indiana Pacers in a quick turnaround on Friday night. And on a day when most of the Lakers were feeling a bit fatigued, Luka Doncic (44 points, 9 rebounds) stepped up and put the team on his back, getting 22 points in the first quarter. This gave the Lakers a needed boost for the first three quarters as the Lakers got the early double-digit lead and never looked back in a 128-117 victory over the Pacers. The Lakers continued their march to the last quarter of the season with a matchup in the Mile High City as they faced off against the Denver Nuggets. But after falling behind 11-0 early and losing Deandre Ayton right after with knee soreness, the Lakers found themselves constantly fighting an uphill battle, getting to within three or four points, then letting Denver go on a big run. A final quarter surge got the Lakers to within one, but another last-minute series of miscues on both sides of the ball as the Lakers ended up witha fake comeback in a 120-113 loss to the Nuggets. The Lakers continued their brief homestand with a matchup against another struggling team, the New Orleans Pelicans. And with the Lakers and Pelicans trading leads through the first three and a half quarters, the Lakers used their defense (seven blocks in the fourth quarter) to key a 22-6 run late as the Lakers pulled away for a 110-101 victory.
