Self-love is not Christianity

I know this topic will raise a lot of eyebrows but I will be buttressing it with biblical quotes for your reference. We all know the story of the creation of man in the Book of Genesis and with that, we will be looking at it critically. A lot of questions will pop up from this story. One of which is: ‘Why did God think that it was not good for man to be alone?’ The creator did not seem satisfied with the man being alone; He knew that something was wrong even if the man did not understand it. But when God made man a woman, the man felt whole and even knew that this creature was like him but different – she was from him but different and so he named her woman. And then God was pleased. There is so much talk of self-love – loving yourself and all which is not bad but the message breeds pride and that is not what Christianity is about. The Bible condemns pride in many verses. In the Book of Proverbs, chapter 16vs5 says “The LORD detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.” And there is the popular one from the Book of Proverbs chapter 16vs18 that says “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” Another one says in Proverbs chapter 11vs2 “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.” And we can go on and on.

MOVING OUR NATION FORWARD TOGETHER

This episode is specifically for Nigerians. I have made this little piece so every Nigerian interested in moving the country forward without causing a disturbance can join in this peaceful movement to redirect and fix our nation. We will pray a little, work a little and then allow fate to take its cause while we do our part as citizens of this country. We will fix things from the grassroots as a people so the government will follow because it seems like they are clueless about what the citizens need. We will do our bit starting from our communities. We are going to raise awareness of what affects us and the solutions, we will use the power of social media to get the message across to the federal government and keep hammering on it until we experience a turnaround. Let us carry out a survey on the new bills passed and how they affect us as citizens. Because each bill has a positive or negative effect on every community in this great nation. The first and most recent is the student loan - How has it affected your community? Educate your community on what works and what doesn't. If you are an educator, weigh the options of this bill and let people know the advantages and disadvantages. Is it the best decision? We need to look at these things critically and without bias to see what works and what doesn't. And if the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, then I suggest we just go with it and give it time to manifest. Otherwise, if it doesn't, then we must let the federal government know why this will not work at least in the way that they want it to.
