    Today on Konversations, we're heading to the theatre. First on that stop is, my delightful chat with Playwright and Screenwriter York Walker. In our interview we talk about the struggles of making it in the City of Angels, his vision board, Covenant, TV writing gig during pandemic, importance of seeing characters who look like us, love for Beyonce, and much more. YORK WALKER is an award-winning writer based in Harlem, New York. He is the inaugural recipient of the Vineyard Theatre's Colman Domingo Award where he is currently an artist in residence. He is also a member of Marcus Gardley's New Wave Writer's Workshop. His work includes The Séance (Winner of the John Singleton Short Film Competition, 48 Hours… in Harlem), Covenant (Fire This Time Festival, Access Theatre’s 4 Flights Up Festival), White Shoes (Fire This Time Festival), Summer Of ’63 (The Actors Company Theatre’s New TACTics Festival, Actor’s Theatre of Louisville’s Apprentice Reading Series) and Of Dreams To Come (American Conservatory Theatre’s New Work Series). York received his MFA in Acting from the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco.

She is a black woman that wants to challenge systems of oppression by assisting in building a safe community for others like her. She believes there are many different spaces where intersectionalities are weaponized or silenced to make others comfortable. As a board member of Black Women Alliance Nekaybaw is committed to being an outspoken voice that represents those who never feel represented, and she will work to create a safe and accepting space for all.We discuss how the organization formed, keys to success, expansion in other cities, community outreach, Black women hurdles, parental support, and more.
