I call this book "Waah Ustad" a mini Wikipedia of Indian classical music! If you are interested in classical music and want to know how musical houses came to be, how they grew and where they are now then this is your book. You will not only get technicalities of Ragas in a simple way, but also find interesting stories related to musical houses, from Tansen to today. This book can for sure ignite an interest for classical music.

And the language is the writer's distinctive style – simple, easy, common colloquial Hindi, the author is adept at making complex things interesting by writing them easily. Congratulations to Dr. Praveen Jha for such an excellent research. In the preface, Praveen Kumar Jha writes, "In this book, I visit the gharanas and ragas of music. I did not travel by train, but locked myself in a secret room and listened to music in solitude. The music adds to the juice, when we learn some of the basics”. The author believes that music is not only for musicians, but also for listeners.

मैं “वाह उस्ताद” किताब को भारतीय शास्त्रीय संगीत की मिनी विकिपीडिया कहूँगा! यदि आप शास्त्रीय संगीत में रुचि रखते हैं और जानना चाहते हैं कि संगीत घराने कैसे बने, कैसे बढ़े और अब कहाँ हैं तो ये बहुत ही अच्छी किताब है। इसमें आपको सरलता से बताई हल्की-फुल्की तकनीकी जानकारी तो मिलेगी ही मगर उससे बढ़कर संगीत घरानों से जुड़े किस्से ढेर सारे दिलचस्प किस्से भी मिलेंगे, तानसेन से लेकर आज तक के कलाकारों के। और भाषा तो है ही लेखक की विशिष्ट शैली – सहज, सुगम, आम बोलचाल वाली हिन्दी, जटिल बात को भी सरलता से लिखकर रोचक बना देने में प्रवीण हैं लेखक। ये किताब किसी भी पाठक के मन में शास्त्रीय संगीत के लिए रुचि पैदा कर सकती है। डॉ प्रवीण झा को इतने उत्कृष्ट शोध के लिए साधुवाद। इसी विषय पर एक और बहुत अच्छी किताब है “रागगीरी”, शिवेन्द्र कुमार सिंह और गिरिजेश कुमार की लिखी हुई, उस पर चर्चा आगे कभी।

भूमिका में प्रवीण कुमार झा लिखते हैं - “इस किताब में मैं संगीत के घरानों और रागों की सैर करता हूँ। मैं ट्रेन से दर-बदर नहीं घूमा, बल्कि अपने एक गुप्त कमरे में बंद होकर एकांत में संगीत सुन-सुन कर घूमा। संगीत में रस बढ़ जाता है, जब हम कुछ मूलभूत बातें जान लें”। लेखक का मानना है कि संगीत केवल संगीतज्ञों के लिए नहीं बल्कि श्रोताओं के लिए भी है।

"Rishiputra Raikva sees an unconscious human body in the forest... Is this a strange creature, with such beautiful long hair, such beautiful antelope eyes, such a beautiful face? Acharya Hazari Prasad Dwivedi has created this beautiful and innocent love story in the background Upanishads. At the same time, the attempt to interpret and understand the Upanishads, the mental conflicts of thought in different situations of human life and the attempt to find answers to them are important features of this novel.

And yes, what is the secret of the itching in the back of Rishiputra Raikva, or why he is sitting under a broken bullock cart, these things should be found out by reading the book!

“ऋषिपुत्र रैक्व को वन में एक बेहोश मानव शरीर दिखता है... यह तो कोई विचित्र प्राणी है, इतने सुंदर लंबे मुलायम केश, इतनी सुंदर इतनी बड़ी मृग सरीखी आंखें, इतना सुंदर मुख? नहीं नहीं यह मानव नहीं हो सकता अवश्य ही यह कोई देवलोक का प्राणी है। इतने में घायल राजकुमारी को होश आ जाता है।“

कुछ इस तरह से बनता है कथानक इस कहानी का। आचार्य हज़ारी प्रसाद द्विवेदी की लेखनी का कमाल है कि उपनिषदों की पृष्ठभूमि में एक बहुत ही मासूम और प्यारी सी प्रेमकथा को चित्रित कर देते हैं। साथ ही साथ उपनिषदों की व्याख्या व समझने का प्रयास, मानव जीवन की विभिन्न परिस्थितियों में विचारों के मानसिक द्वंद्व व उनके उत्तर ढूंढने का प्रयास इस उपन्यास की महत्त्वपूर्ण विशेषताएँ व कहना चाहिए कि उपलब्धियाँ भी है।

और हाँ, ऋषिपुत्र रैक्व की पीठ में खुजली का क्या रहस्य है, या वो एक टूटी बैलगाड़ी के नीचे क्यों बैठा है, ये बातें तो किताब पढ़ कर ही पता लगाई जाएँ!

'Chandrakanta', first published in 1888, and was followed by Chandrakanta Santati. It is said that this was the book that people learned Hindi to read, even the British! Long before any film like Harry Potter or LOTR, Babu Devkinandan Khatri had created that fantasy world of magic and magic, whose illusion is still intact.

When this story appeared on TV, it so quickly captured the hearts and minds of the viewers! So many characters had become people's favorites. There is hardly a person of previous generations who has not read this book by hiding, stealing, listening or turning their eyes to himself. Babu Devkinandan Khatri is a master of amazing and unparalleled memory and imagination. Let’s discuss in today’s Kitaab Ghar what makes this book so special.

‘चन्द्रकान्ता’ का पहला प्रकाशन 1888 में हुआ था, और उसके बाद आती है चन्द्रकान्ता सन्तति। कहते हैं, ये वो किताब थी जिसे पढ़ने के लिए लोगों ने हिन्दी सीखी थी, यहाँ तक कि अंग्रेज़ों ने भी! हैरी पॉटर या LOTR जैसी किसी भी फिल्म से कहीं पहले बाबू देवकीनन्दन खत्री ने तिलस्म और जादू की वो काल्पनिक दुनिया बना दी थी, जिसका मायाजाल आज भी बरकरार है। जब यही कहानी टीवी पर आई तो कितना जल्दी देखने वालों के दिल दिमाग पर छा गई थी! कितने ही पात्र लोगों के चहेते बन गए थे। पिछली पीढ़ियों का शायद ही कोई व्यक्ति होगा जिसने छिपाकर, चुराकर, सुनकर या खुद ही आँखें गड़ाए इस किताब को न पढ़ा हो। अद्भुत और अद्वितीय याददाश्त और कल्पना के स्वामी हैं बाबू देवकीनन्दन खत्री।

“धूप कमरे में आती है। सूर्य नहीं आता। बारिश के दिन लगातार तीन दिन की धूप की जरूरत थी। इससे ज्यादा दिन की धूप नहीं चाहता था” – ये पंक्ति है विनोद कुमार शुक्ल लिखित “नौकर की कमीज” किताब से। इसी एक पंक्ति में इस किताब का सार दिखाई दे जाता है। शीर्षक “नौकर की कमीज” प्रतीक है एक ढांचे का, एक सोच का कि ये कमीज ऐसी है कि जो इसमें अच्छी तरह फिट हो जाएगा, वो नौकर कहलाएगा। जैसे कमीज न होकर एक साँचा हो।

बहुत सहज सरल लहजे में लिखी ये किताब कहानी कहती है हमारे समाज में स्थापित अलग-अलग वर्गों की, जिसमें निचले दर्जे पर सबसे गरीब, जैसे इस कहानी में मँहगू, फिर निम्न-मध्यमवर्गीय संतू बाबू, जो स्वयं ये कहानी कहानी कह रहे हैं, फिर आते हैं “बड़े बाबू” और उनके भी ऊपर बड़े साहब, और डॉक्टर साहब जैसे लोग। संतू बाबू का जीवन घर से शुरू होकर दफ्तर और बीच में शहर की गलियों में बीतता है और जो वो देखते हैं, सुनते हैं उसी में उस समय के समाज का एक खाका खिंच जाता है। उपन्यास 1979 में लिखा गया है तो समाज भी कुछ उसी समय का है.

Along with exposing Pakistan's so-called Bhuttoist democracy, the ever-strengthening dictatorship and religious fanaticism and its socio-economic contradictions, it has also investigated those international sources of anti-India conspiracies, the incurable result of which we are facing in the form of 'Khalistani' ulcer.

डॉ वसुधा मिश्र इस हफ्ते हमसे साझा कर रही हैं - मोहनलाल भास्कर का अनुभव उनकी किताब में - "मैं पाकिस्तान में भारत का जासूस था"। ये किताब कहती है एक सिहरन पैदा कर देने वाली दास्तान, सत्य घटनाओं का वर्णन, कैसे मोहनलल भास्कर पाकिस्तान गए, वहाँ की जेलों में रहे, वहाँ क्या क्या हुआ और कैसे वो रिहा होके वापस आए।

इसमें 1965 के भारत-पाक युद्ध के दौरान लेखक के पाकिस्तान-प्रवेश, मित्रघात के कारण गिरफ़्तारी और लम्बी जेल-यातना का जीवंत चित्रण हुआ है। यह कृति कुछ साहसी और सूझबूझ-भरी घटनाओं का संकलन मात्र नहीं है, बल्कि पाकिस्तान के तत्कालीन हालात का भी ऐतिहासिक विश्लेषण करती है। इसमें पाकिस्तान के तथाकथित भुट्टोवादी लोकतंत्र, तानाशाही और धार्मिक कठमुल्लावाद और उसके सामाजिक-आर्थिक अन्तर्विरोधों को उघाड़ने के साथ-साथ भारत-विरोधी षड्यंत्रों के उन अन्तरराष्ट्रीय सूत्रों की भी पड़ताल की गई है, जिसके एक असाध्य परिणाम को हम ‘ख़ालिस्तानी’ नासूर की शक्ल में झेल रहे हैं। उसमें जहाँ एक ओर भास्कर ने पाकिस्तानी जेलों की नारकीय स्थिति, जेल-अधिकारियों के अमानवीय व्यवहार के बारे में बताया है, वहीं पाकिस्तानी अवाम और मेजर अय्याज अहमद सिपरा जैसे व्यक्ति के इंसानी बर्ताव को भी रेखांकित किया है।
