Although Anuradha Beniwal is a relatively new author, but her book "Azadi Mera Brand" belies the fact.

I thought the book was a travelogue, but it goes beyond that into intriguing experiences, adventures and keen observations (sometimes philosophical) of the society in India and abroad. The ‘Azadi’ here refers to a woman’s ability to decide for herself without being judged, whether it’s the ability to travel independently across villages, cities, countries, OR, judgments related to her attire or behaviour. Anuradha presents a woman's identity as being determined by autonomy - specifically, self-awareness and self-expression- rather than material items such as clothing, shoes, or handbags. And of course, the adventures from her travels with backpack and couch-surfing keep the reader engaged. The book is written in a simple and easy flowing everyday Hindi.

Ultimately, the book is a powerful and engaging testament to the notion that true 'Azadi' is found not in destination, but in a woman’s uncompromised right to self-determination and experience.

अनुराधा बेनीवाल एक नवोदित लेखिका हैं लेकिन उनकी किताब “आज़ादी मेरा ब्रांड” पढ़कर ये कहना मुश्किल है। कहानी बड़ी सहजता से बहती है और पाठक को अपने साथ लिए चलती है, और भाषा एकदम सरल, सुगम – विशेषकर आज की हिंदी में, जहाँ बीच-बीच में कुछ एक अंग्रेज़ी शब्द वैसे ही पच जाते हैं जैसे काली डाल में राजमा।

किताब का कथानक मुख्य तौर पर एक यात्रा वृतांत है, हालांकि कहानी के साथ-साथ लेखिका के अपने अनुभव, अपना जीवन दर्शन भी साथ चलता है, और किताब का शीर्षक भी वहीं से आया लगता है। लेखिका कहती हैं कि एक लड़की जब किसी भी गाँव, शहर, देश में अपनी इच्छा से घूम-फिर सकती है, बिना लोगों के घूरे जाने की परवाह किये अपने तरीके से कपड़े पहन कर निकल सकती है, जिसके अंदाज़ में ख़ुदमुख़्तारी बोलती हो – सही मायने में उसका ब्रांड उसके कपड़ों, जूतों, हैन्ड-बैग का ब्रांड नहीं होता – उसका ब्रांड होता है आज़ादी! ख़ुद से वाक़िफ़ होने की आज़ादी।

“Na Hanyate” (English: It Doesn't Die) is a novel written in 1974 in Bengali by Maitreyi Devi, an Indian poet and novelist who was the protégée of the great Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore. The writer received Sahitya Akademi Award for this novel in 1976. She wrote the novel in response to Romanian philosopher Mircea Eliade's book La Nuit Bengali (titled Bengal Nights in English), which related a fictionalised account of their romance during Eliade's visit to India. Reading this book is a sheer joy ride!

I won’t stop at saying it’s an easy read – it’s heartwarming, it’s fun and simple as flowing water, one where you take a dip and don’t want to come out for long! In short, it lives the name “The Easy Life in Kamusari”.

The author Shion Miura takes you on a journey, offering an experience akin to that of a newcomer discovering marvels and wonders at every stage. The narrator, Yuki, a confused young man who, initially resistant to being placed in a remote village to study forestry, gradually develops a deep affinity for his new environment. Miura skillfully illustrates the splendour of the changing seasons while also highlighting the challenges and daily hazards inherent to this way of life, all interwoven with incisive wit and humour. As Yuki observes: “…there are a couple of reasons why Kamusari villagers are so easygoing. One is that most of them are involved in forestry, where you have to think in cycles of a century; the other is that there’s no place to hang out at night, so when it gets dark everybody just hits the hay.”

I call this book "Waah Ustad" a mini Wikipedia of Indian classical music! If you are interested in classical music and want to know how musical houses came to be, how they grew and where they are now then this is your book. You will not only get technicalities of Ragas in a simple way, but also find interesting stories related to musical houses, from Tansen to today. This book can for sure ignite an interest for classical music.

And the language is the writer's distinctive style – simple, easy, common colloquial Hindi, the author is adept at making complex things interesting by writing them easily. Congratulations to Dr. Praveen Jha for such an excellent research. In the preface, Praveen Kumar Jha writes, "In this book, I visit the gharanas and ragas of music. I did not travel by train, but locked myself in a secret room and listened to music in solitude. The music adds to the juice, when we learn some of the basics”. The author believes that music is not only for musicians, but also for listeners.

मैं “वाह उस्ताद” किताब को भारतीय शास्त्रीय संगीत की मिनी विकिपीडिया कहूँगा! यदि आप शास्त्रीय संगीत में रुचि रखते हैं और जानना चाहते हैं कि संगीत घराने कैसे बने, कैसे बढ़े और अब कहाँ हैं तो ये बहुत ही अच्छी किताब है। इसमें आपको सरलता से बताई हल्की-फुल्की तकनीकी जानकारी तो मिलेगी ही मगर उससे बढ़कर संगीत घरानों से जुड़े किस्से ढेर सारे दिलचस्प किस्से भी मिलेंगे, तानसेन से लेकर आज तक के कलाकारों के। और भाषा तो है ही लेखक की विशिष्ट शैली – सहज, सुगम, आम बोलचाल वाली हिन्दी, जटिल बात को भी सरलता से लिखकर रोचक बना देने में प्रवीण हैं लेखक। ये किताब किसी भी पाठक के मन में शास्त्रीय संगीत के लिए रुचि पैदा कर सकती है। डॉ प्रवीण झा को इतने उत्कृष्ट शोध के लिए साधुवाद। इसी विषय पर एक और बहुत अच्छी किताब है “रागगीरी”, शिवेन्द्र कुमार सिंह और गिरिजेश कुमार की लिखी हुई, उस पर चर्चा आगे कभी।

भूमिका में प्रवीण कुमार झा लिखते हैं - “इस किताब में मैं संगीत के घरानों और रागों की सैर करता हूँ। मैं ट्रेन से दर-बदर नहीं घूमा, बल्कि अपने एक गुप्त कमरे में बंद होकर एकांत में संगीत सुन-सुन कर घूमा। संगीत में रस बढ़ जाता है, जब हम कुछ मूलभूत बातें जान लें”। लेखक का मानना है कि संगीत केवल संगीतज्ञों के लिए नहीं बल्कि श्रोताओं के लिए भी है।
